Now finally the Smart Car comes to America and perhaps just in time! Most industry analysts forecast an uninspiring and dismal year for automakers, likely the worst in nearly a decade. Sales have been hurt by consumer anxiety over gas prices and industry watchers caution that the 2008 auto sales achievements could be even weaker.

An unpredictable optimist is a person who gets chased up a tree by a big, bad, hungry bear and enjoys the view.  The undying optimist are all you spirited Smart car devotees, who have waited these many years, singing the Smart cars praises and keeping the Smart wheels turning. For those of you who have not been following the saga, it went something like this.

In 2003 Mercedes-Benz Canada was alerted that demand for their Smart would be considerable, but nonetheless, demand was under-estimated. Most of the 60 Mercedes-Benz Canada dealers that sold the Smart had buyers waiting months for the Smart and in some cases over a year, even with sizeable deposits.

Garcia Automotive Group will be the only dealership selling the Smart starting Jan. 8, 2008. The company bought a shopping center next to Garcia Infiniti at 1234 Renaissance Blvd. NE and is converting it into showroom. Enterprise Builders is doing the build-out. It will be one of 74 Smart dealers opening next year.
