i installed polk 651s today. i wanted a rear mount setup just like stock so i could retain the factory grilles. the mounting adapter that came with the polks was pretty useless for this application -- i could not see how to make it work without designing some custom retaining clip for three our of four mounting points. then i came up with a better idea -- use the old speakers to make a mounting adapter.

basically i cut the back off the old speaker and trimmed the face flat to make the mounting bracket. i used a coarse file to smooth out the new bracket front and back. i reused the plug from the old speaker as shown on the evilution site (great idea). i put the polk-supplied rubber gasket between the new mounting adapter and the speaker back. after trimming the polk-supplied screws some i had an easy to make mount solution that used all four of the stock mounting holes. it worked out pretty well!

I just installed a Pioneer AVIC F90BT nav in my Smart.

I didn't really do the install, it was done by Jason of AVIC411.com He's a friend of my son and is an authority on Pioneer AVIC nav units. His website is the place to go for info on the Pioneer navs.

I ordered a double DIN bezel, a wiring harness, and an antenna adapter from Cruchfield. Other than some crimp connectors, the kit was all we needed. Tool wise he used a Torx 25 bit and a crimper. The installation took about an hour and it worked perfectly when we turned it on.

I was able to download this custom Smart splash screen off the avic411.com forums.

The AVIC unit is amazing. It pairs up with my iPhone via bluetooth, it can access music, playlists and even play videos. I'm still learning the navigation features. We're working on an installation video and some photos.

Hello,
I checked forums already to see if this issue had been posted already and did not find it so I apologize in advance if this issue has already been addressed - and then tell me where to look, please.
Any who, I'm on week two with my 2009 four-two, passion coupe, I enjoy Sirius satelite radio and hasve discovered that utilizing the power supply for my satelite unit sets off the check engine light (according to the dealer). Has this occured to anyone else? And is there anything I can do about it?
thanks in advance...

Hi folk,

I'm installing a 300 watt amp to power my Alpine Type-S 6.5 inch speakers. I've mounted the amp under the passenger side dash with my power hooked up to the battery and the ground hooked up to a screw/bolt combo to the left and above the battery.

Even though this appears to be a good ground area, I'm still getting a lot of engine feedback in my speakers. This is also not the first area that I've grounded it too, I've tried all of the different possible screws and nuts around the battery but have had the same issue.

Does anybody know if there is a better ground area to use? Just some other notes, I'm using a 4 gauge power and ground wires and have also tried grounding to the batteries negative, as well as to the wire that the batteries negative connects to.

Thanks in advance, you all are great!

iPod/iPhone issues with Eclipse AVN62D

I'm having difficulty getting either an iPhone(2G) or an iPod Classic (4G?) to pair correctly with the dealer(San Jose) installed Eclipse AVN62D stereo. I've tried an adapter that Apple sells that was supposed to fix compatibility issues with newer iPods, but I still can't get full functionality.

Although the eclipse does see both units, I'm having the following issues...

iPhone(2G)
Music plays, but unable to scroll past 1st page of songs on the eclipse screen. (i.e scrolling arrows dimmed out) I am able to forward-arrow to next song, but that's very tedious.

iPod Classic(4G?)
Able to scroll and seem to have control of the iPod--except for one minor detail: the music never starts. The timer always indicates 0' 0". I can select songs and I can hear the iPod's drive seek and find the item, but they never play.

Does anyone have this unit paired to an iPod? If so, what generation is your iPod?

(I don't think I'd ever consider another Eclipse unit)

Thanks.

Under Seat Subs: Would these Work?

Looking at popping in some underseat subwoofers, as having two large 10 inchers in the back isn't working for lugging 50 pounds of dogfood around.

After much research, I've come across these:

Amazon.com: Boss BASS1200 10-Inch Low Profile...
Any ideas if these would fit under the passenger and driver's seats?

Looks like size is Dimensions: 15.2 x 11.6 x 2.8 inches.

Anybody else tried these?

By this time we have a lot of Smarts with subs in their passions!!! Can some of you give suggestiions as to where we are putting the amps? I purchased a smart madness under dash sub box but find myself in a dilema as to where the amp might go. I really thought I would put it under the passenger seat but the amp is just a little to big. I really wanted to maintain the interior as clean so I am at a loss. any suggestions as to where. I even looked for a 600 watt amp that would fit under the seat and still no luck. Thanks Skip
