They sell it now through PAG in the hopes that you will come back in a couple of years, to trade-up to a Mercedes (maybe, an A-class, which is slightly bigger than the Smart) or some other model, which has a bigger profit margin. Yeah, I agree. I'm reasonably well paid for what I do and I don't ever even SEE my companys' product (oil). Paying for doc processing seems reasonable but I doubt that is what it is used for. Why not just call it "dealer markup". Oh, yeah. Because they advertized there would not be any of that.

Advertisers... all the sneakyness and arrogance of lawyers with only a fraction of the costly education.

I don't even know if TGSoTexas allows these fees but I don't have much of a problem with it. The ONLY thing that gives me any trouble at all is that I heard somewhere that the greenosity of the smartfortwo will allow MB to pass on some US cafe standards. If that is the case then I want the option to have a MB logo on my hood. Just the option though. I like the pigeon head more than the imasculated peace sign.

(FV, this is going to have to count for my weekly rant because my meds are kicking in and this is as fired-up as they will let me get. Sorry.)

Overcharge - not in my book

I managed to get the first delivery in MA this past Tuesday.

I don't know about other states but in MA you have to have a stamped Registry Form from you insurance company, the original title, and you have to go to the registry during normal business hours M-F business hours (no evenings or weekends). I am happy to pay some one $253 (smart center Lynnfield MA) to take care of all of this and have my car spotless for my delivery. Otherwise I would have to take time off from work and drive all around.

MA is not like many states where you can drive the car off the lot and they send the paperwork later. I had to wait almost a week after the car arrived to take delivery because we had to wait for PAG to send the titles. They received them over the weekend but of course Monday was Martin Luther King Holiday and the registry was closed.

Since the smart is so new - the registry was not sure how to registerit. The dealer in Lynnfield now has to drive about 30 miles to a specific registry office to get these cars registered. I was very happy to pay the money and not deal with headaches and lines at the registry. Three or four hours of my time is worth more to me than $253!

The folks at smart center Lynnfield are terrific. Ann Marie and Pat both have smarts of their own on order!

Hey Minibmw,
I would be getting my smart from Lynnfield as well. Pat is awesome. I talked to her many times - I will drive this weekend to pay them a little visit Since I live in NH - they will have to either drive the car to me directly to the registry office or I'll have to get everything from NH before I go pick it up. Not that I have to worry about it now, since I probably wont get my smart for MANY months. THanks for the info on the dealership, its appreciated!
