I hope the repair goes quick and clean!

I'm sure the "crumple" zone will all have to be replace also

As a matter of fact, I was rear-ended at a relatively low speed a couple of months back. The damage to the rear panels, exhaust/muffler, and supports for both ended up costing about $2,500. The car was drivable after the accident; although the rear skirt was hanging on one side (see the pictures in the first link).

smart center portland did the repairs in-house. The job was satisfactory -- we just drove it to Olympia from Portland last weekend encountering heavy winds along the way, and it seemed to handle pretty much the way it always handled in heavy crosswinds -- although it took a couple of weeks to get some of the parts. Sort of a long drive to get here from Mass., though.

So the end of the story is the insurance co decided to total it and we now are the proud owners of a 2009 cabrio .. this time in bright red (hoping we will be more noticeable). And btw, it was the dealership trying to do the repairs but they just couldn't be assured they had maintained the structural integrity of the car.

Wow, they totaled the Smart from a rear-end crash? That Grand Am must have been moving! I hope you weren't injured.
