My mother got her Smart Car off Ebay. The day that hers came in, American Ford got in a yellow one. I test drove my mom's so I decided that I wanted to get one. I put my money down, called the bank.
At first I thought my husband was going to throw a fit. $19,000 for a teeny car that only fits two people? What the heck!
Honey, it's made by (in a round about way) MERCEDES!! I could own a 2008 MERCEDES!! WOOHOO!! He didn't disagree, I think the selling point is 55 MPG in town, and I drive around alot. He said yes.
My car shows up at work. It was definately a hot topic for a while. The guys were asking me all kinds of stuff, how big is the engine, how do you change the oil, what kind of horse power does it have....I DON'T KNOW!! I just bought it cause it is totally cute, and it gets awesome gas mileage.
They found out for me, as I got off work the next afternoon, they had the engine compartment all open, the hood off (good thing they figured that out for me!) and were snooping all around the inside. It was very fascinating to watch all these "big truck" guys gauking over a teeny yellow car. A few have gotten rides and they have asked to drive it. I put on awesome insurance that way if someone wants to take it for a spin, it's covered. It's my baby!
My husband would much rather drive in the pickup, than take the teeny car, but he grew up on a ranch, driving big mean cars. It's been called everything from a Jellybean to Lemondrop to Herbie with an attitude. It fits me, I love it, and I couldn't stand NOT to have one.
