If I'm not working OT that day, I may drive over and meet everyone at Shady Maple.

If I don't have too much studying to do for finals, I might head up that way!

We eat at Shady Maple often, it's about 50 miles for us and when the weather is nice it makes a nice ride on the old Harley. If my wife has off we may drive up that way, just to look at some of the Smart cars in the parking lot - depending on the weather we may even ride the old Harley .

I just checked our ETA and it moved up 3 months in the last two weeks, now November of next year. The way things are going we may be ordering a lot sooner than originally expected. We looked into an orphan from Edison New Jersey, but the process started to remind me of the Cabbage Patch Doll days when people went crazy and would do anything to buy one, we are not that desperate.

The one I have on order has moved up to November too. Just wondering what part of the orphan buying process turned you off? I got mine from Paul at Edison and it was easier than the Honda I bought here in York. He told me over the phone what was available without accessories (most of them), told me the MSRP, I said sold and picked it up 5 days later. Even took our info over the phone and had the financing done when we got there. I had my PA tag and registration card Fed-Ex'd to me within a week. Not sure how they got PenDot to work that fast! I was a little apprehensive about buying out-of-state but would do it again anyday. The three hour drive was more than worth it with how much fun I've had with the car over the last two months. I was going to just wait for my reservation but glad I didnt

It was not one particular thing but a combination, first we would have had to settle for something other than what we really wanted.

The 3+ hour drive was probably the biggest drawback, especially when they told us we need to give them our credit card number so they could charge us $1000.00 to hold it for a couple days. We had our own financing already and did not like having to deal with getting our $1000.00 back from the dealer, yes they might have refunded it without any problems , then again they might have used it to try to leverage us into buying additional products and or services. I have been in that type of situation before, and although they eventually give back the money, the risk of extra time lost saying no to the sales pitches was just more than I wanted to do. Maybe we are just old farts, but I didn't want to use my credit card. If we wait until we order, we can use a check as there is no rush.

I realize everyone is different and some don't mind doing all the things it takes, but I grew up in dutch country and this just rubbed me the wrong way. I kept thinking the local car dealers are bending over backwards for our business and I know Smart car dealers need to "sell" more than we need to buy at this time. Come January/February when there is 6 inches of snow on the streets and the salesman hasn't had any prospects for two weeks, he might think differently as well.

Thinking back, if they had not insisted we put $1000.00 on our credit card we would have picked up a new Smart car on Good Friday, paying full price. Right now we are thinking it is better to wait and order exactly what we want and have it delivered to a PA dealer that is closer.
