The materials may be available for less but the need to pull the seats out as well as the carpet is reason enough to consider a "simple" solution. Having the work done by someone who's not a hobbyist owner would put the materials-plus-labor well above the $300 mark. Of course this solution doesn't provide better insulation for the doors/speakers.

And Rigger - I forgot to mention... you might need to replace the cheap plastic carpet tie-down on the cargo deck driver's side with a copy of the metal one on the passenger side. It just bulks up a bit under the carpet.

Looks like it simply lays over the stock carpet so unless you are using the car seat tether, no mods would be necessary. I'd like to see some db level comparisons. If it works it'd be worth the money for a pre-engineered, SIMPLE, solution to the additional noise level in the cabin that my Solo exhaust (while a great product and not extraordinarily loud) produces.

I the previous thread from the person doing the original development of the "smartenu8" there were dB values given. Smart Madness really needs to get the numbers on their site. It may be that they're waiting to get new measurements from the production version before posting. The original numbers were nearly 6 dB difference or nearly 1/4 the sound pressure level.

We received our first shipment, but they are going rather quick. We are down to the last two.

Any input from the early adopters of this item? This thread has been as quiet as I would hope the barrier would make my car.

Here's some feedback from one of the early adopters, Michael Valdes (quoted with his permission).

Hi Mark,
I've lived with the SmartenU8 for a while now. I'm pleasantly surprised to report that it's more effective than I expected it to be. At first, I was skeptical and assumed it was just the placebo effect particularly since I could still appreciate the throaty roar of the DTH exhaust. Then, I realized that I've been playing the stereo at a much lower volume setting. The music hasn't changed, I can just hear it much better. It's unusual these days to have a product exceed your expectations!
Thank you,
Michael
