I am ignorant of carbon fiber. Are they stronger? Flexible? Can you educate me?

Thanks

Are these actual carbon fiber or do they just have a carbon fiber "look"?

Just when you thought they have run out of objects on the Smart to be carbon fiber....they slap another one upon ya. Whats next...carbon fiber brake discs? Carbon fiber Visors? Ooohhh! How about a Carbon Fiber windshield!

Not necessarily true. I would disagree that carbon fiber is stronger than the plastic panels as they have more flexibility. Although carbon fiber is strong, it is brittle.
I would love carbon fiber panels but would prefer the flexibility of plastic.

Carbon Fiber is only light if it is autoclaved. Generally it is laid up the same as fiberglass and eventually weighs the same, probably heavier than the standard plastic panels. If they are autoclaved, expect the cost to be about the same as the cost of the car they are going on.

What is the point of 'carbon fiber' body panels for a smart car? I agree with evil, real carbon fiber costs a fortune. A good rock hit on the freeway could do some expensive damage, I'll stick with the OE plastic.
