Midwest Rally ++ SmartieParts Cruise Control Signup Procedure

Hello everyone.

I'm sorry I'm late posting this. I've been very busy. Please link to this post anywhere you've seen people asking about cruise controls in relation to this event.

There has been a considerable number of people contacting me asking if I'll be at this event to sell and install cruise controls. I would very much like to come but it would be a working trip. As such, there needs to be enough interest to make it make sense.

The exact numbers required and the exact discount available still has to be determined. This is the current promotion
$450 Area 451 Parts Cruise Kit INSTALLED

The price is based on the number of confirmed signups with paid deposits. This is the structure:

1 person @ $1,800,000 each
2 people @ $120,000 each
3 people @ $45,924 each
4 people @ $11,111 each
5 people @ $500 each
6 people @ $495 each
7 people @ $490 each
8 people @ $485 each
9 people @ $480 each
10 people @ $475 each
11 people @ $470 each
12 people @ $465 each
13 people @ $460 each
14 people @ $455 each
>>> 15 people @ $450 each <<<
16 people @ $445 each
17 people @ $440 each
18 people @ $435 each
19 people @ $430 each
20+ people @ $425 each

Assuming there is enough interest, it has to be reasonably organized since it involves labor that takes a certain amount of time to perform.

To that end, I found a website that seems fairly easy to use that allows me to post available timeslots and people can individually choose a time slot and sign up for it (see Step 1 below).

You'll see I have 1-hour time slots going from 8:00am to 8:00pm on the 12th, 13th and 14th which fully encompasses the time frame of this event (and then some). One hour for lunch is removed from each day.

Signing up and reserving your spot is a two-step process. I hope I'm not being overly complicated, but this is the best I could come up with.

Here is a summary of the steps along with links to perform them:

Step 1: Choose your preferred time slot (password is "cruise")
Step 2: Pay a $200 deposit (Visa, M/C, PayPal)

Here are the details/notes:

Step 1: Choose your preferred time slot
  • The time slot sign-up web page is a 3rd party service and they require you to create an account but its free and a quick 1-step process. If you have any troubles with it let me know but I think it works fairly well for this purpose. When you first get there it should ask you for a password. That password is "cruise"
  • Please understand I don't know what the response to this will be. If there is only barely enough interest to justify going then we'll have to consolidate the time slots for the sake of efficiency. SO YOUR TIMESLOT MAY BE MOVED. Any changes will be discussed with you of course.
  • Many of the time slots may (and do!) conflict with proposed activities during the event. Make sure you're happy with the slot you choose and remember why it is you're going! Installations should be done in 40 minutes.
  • The website that the time slots are organized apparently features the ability to "swap" slots with other people. Feel free to utilize this if it becomes necessary. I don't really care which car I'm working on at any given point as long as it doesn't disrupt the overall flow.
Step 2: Pay a $200 deposit
  • Some details regarding the deposit are on the deposit page. In general, the deposit is non-refundable if you screw up and is refundable if I screw up. Obviously all deposits are returned in the event we cancel due to lack of interest.
  • If you don't have a credit card or PayPal account you can choose "Check/Money Order" during checkout. Either send me a check promptly or swear on something important that I get your sister's first cat, etc. However please only do this if you have no other option. I generally trust people but only reservations with deposits count toward the number that determines if we come or not.
  • If you wish, we can treat the deposit as only a "hold/authorization". In other words, your card won't be charged at all and you pay the full amount in cash on-site. That'll save us about $10 in processing fees which we'll pass on to you with thanks. Just make the request at the time you pay the deposit.
In General:
  • Airfare to WI is EXPENSIVE from here! Add to that the cost of a car rental and modest accommodations (probably a tent) for 3 or 4 days. Never mind the man-hours (I work for free anyway)! While I'd love to come to this event just for the fun of it, we really have to watch the bottom line on this. Please do everyone in the group and us a favor and pass this around so people know of it. I don't know exactly what the minimum number is yet but probably at least 10 and perhaps quite a bit more.
  • We can't bring more kits then we expect to sell! Remember we're coming from Canada and that still technically classifies as a foreign country. There are customs regulations and a ton of paperwork comes with bringing commercial goods in and a ton more if we bring them back! So the only way you'll be able to make a game-time decision is if someone else backs out last minute. If you want the discount, sign up.
Any questions or concerns, let me know!

Steven

Great idea Steve, I sure hope enough people sign up to keep you busy. If anyone wants to leave their car with Steve during the festivities, I'm sure we can arrange for you to hitch a ride with a fellow member if needed.

OMG Steven - you are amazing! You can count on me to bring you (more) cheap bar food if you can't get away from that tight install schedule... heh heh....

To all attendees - Steven offered this deal to us at the Prosser meet last fall and I was one of several who took advantage of it. I'm so glad I did, as I don't know any other way I could have gotten such a deal. AND I LOVE MY area 451 cruise control! And trust me, I'll be using it plenty on my way to the meet!

Garage
No need for a tent; I'm guessing with all the rooms available there's a spare bed somewhere. Might behoove folks to help with his expenses also.

My bad. There's a password you have to put in to pick the slot!!

I forgot about that. It is "cruise". Click the link, it should ask for a password... enter "cruise". So sorry.
