Have you considered substituting a little more road time for less flight time? Minneapolis/St. Paul (Minnesota) are just over 3 hours from the Dells and the more popular international destination of Chicago is a little over 5 hours each way. If you're getting the car anyway and can reduce the number of legs in your flight, the trip could come out much cheaper for just a little more travel time.

Oh yes, I am very good at finding the best airfare (I spent 30+ hours on the computer calculating the best options for our NYC/Rome/Egypt/Jordan honeymoon recently).

The flight I speak of is actually into Chicago. Anything else almost doubles it. It is a bit cheaper if I fly to Vegas or LA first and head over from there, but I also have to consider flight times as well as, of course, carbon emissions.

If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. We've done 3 events like this so far that all went great. Another 4 or 5 fizzled and never got off the ground. But with as many cars as are expected for this Rally I don't see why it can't work. Give it some time.
