Regarding the Convoy's someone will be planning and organizing those so we all have contact info and can drive to the Dells together! Imagine the 3 convoy's coming in from the West, South, and East all at the same time and meeting in the dells!!!
Also not sure what hotel will be the popular choice. I just posted a few on the first post that people might like.
IMHO:It would be a more fair and a true "National" if it were held at an approximate center latitude( AS WELL AS) longitude.
I speak for myself (So CAl) but also have all of the Southern states in mind.
Actually the population (Smart that is) is much higher in the South than it is in the North.
I request you pose to the membership an inquiry as to how many more would attend if the National were to take place closer to the center East-West in addition to North-South.
Again????? this started out as a MIDWEST RALLY and a number of members were going to travel from different areas to attend. Great!! so now by adding the word National to the title, it has to be moved somewhere else?? If thats the case, how about having it in Hawaii? always wanted to go there. Just not sure how to drive across that wet stuff.
Many National car clubs and other organizations have national events that move to different parts of the country, noth south, east, west or some other scheme of rotation. Or have a more localized one on the same weekend. I could see a huge rally set up in California with some sort of internet comunications linked to other rally sites.
As with any event, those who do the work of planning and organizing are the ones who get to choose the location.
Since this Midwest summer rally has been in the planning phase for several months, a schedule is set, local services have been listed and dozens of people have committed to attend, it wouldn't make much sense to consider moving it at this time.
My hat is off to Jefferios for all the work he's already put into this one!
Well part of the choice I made it the dells is the 3 hour drive from my home in MN. For being the host of the event I thought it'd be strange if I lived 2000 miles from the location.
Anyway it is a Midwest event but anyone is welcome to attend. If it were national I'd pick the SE or the SW. There isn't much going on in the middle of the country that I know about. Our country is kinda big as well so that make sit difficult. I suppose the No Cal lumbard street is the West Coast Rally. (130 smarts is pretty big)
Anyway, as what Suze said the plan is pretty much set, ideas are still welcome though
Donnyonee, I added you the the RSVP list, glad to see your on board...if you do come, bring some others with you and also bring extra sets of lug covers to sell.
im looking forward to a holiday getaway. take a few days before and after. maybe we could convoy up there picking up more smarts on the way. whats in the area for campgrounds? and what are the dells?
and you betcha, id like to see everyone wearing the covers, neon pink should be here in a few days, maybe 2/10/09. a nice surprise for your valentine.
But all the FIB's (Friendly Illinois Buddies) you will be sharing the road with comming from the south is another thing.
Carefull they don't plow you over on the way. I guess their is safety in Numbers
Yep, those of us fleeing to Wisconsin to get away from Six Flags or Keylime Cove might drive in large groups.
2 days ago I saw a ton of SUVs heading towards Milwaukee blocking all of the fast lane. One of them looked like it had no driver (granny).
If some would take a convoy of smarts and block all of the inbound lanes into Wisconsin I'm sure that would turn plenty of heads and cause a possible multi-car pileup.
P.S. I really never knew how beautiful WI was until 3 years ago when I went with a friend to a northern WI fishing house that was secluded in a dense forest surrounded by a deep, yet clean lake.
Then I went to their family reunion at a very clear lake (see to the bottom)
Wisconsin Dells is a basic tourist trap area. Lots of hotels, water parks, and stuff like that. Plenty of campgrounds and mini golf, go cart tracks, etc. Last time I was there was about 20 years ago or so, It has gotten much bigger since. The old standards are still there, Tommy Bartlett water ski shows, and of course the famous Ducks, military type amphibious vehicles that take you around and across the water. Lots of fun. Also nearby is the House On a Rock. an amazing house built on rock with a ton of collections. A full day of walking around for sure.
Okay......its ABOUT TIME!!! someone has mentioned the House on the Rock
My opinion... take it or leave it. The house is so awesome the building with "stuff" after the house is the biggest joke I have ever seen. That building of junk needs to be DESTROYED!
