Hello from Central Illinois

Patiently waiting for the confirmation to come through here in the Heartland, about 200 miles south of Chicago in Springfield.

Are there any more Central Illinois residents with a smart car on order?

So far no Indy dealer rumors so you guys may be stuck with Chicago. How is Danville these day? Back when I was at the U of I it was the hot place to go (although I can't confirm that personally.)

There is absolutely nothing "hot" in Danville anymore. Hef may have lost his virginity here, but those free-wheeling days are over and it's now a depressed community losing jobs and seeing an immigration of Section 8 housing from the Chicago area. If it wasn't "home" where the family is, I wouldn't be here!

as I'm up in the NW 'burbs of Chicago with a choice between two smart dealers within 20 to 25 miles from home (one is closer to work --- only 12 miles --- will more than likely be the one I'm working with). And then of course there is also Milwaukee (90 miles) as well ... I'm sure if there is enough demand further down the road they'll do something downstate but it won't be for awhile

Then it is my hope that I can go to the dealership and pay my money and they'll put her on a truck and drive her to my house so I don't have to put my first 180 miles on her driving back from Chicago on 57. I love Chicago - I used to live there and miss it - but with a new "kid" I don't want to have her maiden voyage being the Dan Ryan.

My wife and I went down to St Louis to take a test drive on the smart cars, and I believe the Mercedes dealership we went to is lined up to handle the lineup. It's closer for us than Chicago, but may be a toss-up from Danville. Glad to see that we won't be the only ones south of the Windy City, right in the middle of Corn Country!

That is amazing. I live in Danville. Illinois that is. I think our dealership will be the Indy one. I actually went and talked to the SMART manager there yesterday. Very nice and enthusiastic guy. They will be getting 28 cars this month starting in the next few days.

When you talked to the SMART manager in Indy, did he speak to you at all about fees?

I have been reading the other threads re: all the fees to get out the door (taxes, license, destination charge ($645)) and some people are saying they're paying anywhere from $55 to $250 in document fees.

I don't know what Indiana does for such things. Gus, can you weigh in as a native? We're just two girls across the border.

He did not say anythihng about fees. He mentioned that more warrantee was available but did not talk price. I hope they do not charge extra fees.
