I guess that Summer gets boring eventually for you guys in the warmth.

People around here are soooo used to cold weather that people often under dress for the weather. At my high school, it doesn't matter how cold it is, you'll still see many teens coming to school wearing shorts or without a coat.
-But we party when the sun brings on the heat.
-Been to Florida, it's a peaceful and fun place when you aren't running back to the Midwest to avoid a tropical storm.
-I still wish that we could have visited at least one beach while in FL. in 2001 but I believe a weak hurricane or tropical storm had scared my parents and we went home a week early.

P.S. Chicago was rated #3 for most miserable city in America.

I don't agree, I love downtown!!

Call me crazy (everybody else does), but, when I get out of this hell hole, I can easily imagine taking vacations to the Gulf Coast during hurricane season, to chase the storms. I've never evacuated. Fact is, I've chased 3 or 4 storms. Weak ones, granted. But, a Cat 1 or 2 is not a big deal unless you're a rich MF with beach front property.

I don't think so!

One of my choices of profession is Meteorologist (other than Lawyer or M.D. of Internal Medicine) because my curiosity and love for the Science of Meteorology.

Storm chasing is just one of my interests, tornadoes and hurricanes are just a couple of my favorites. I would probably be the only one heading to a city when a cat 1 - 2 hurricane is approaching!

P.S. Doctor is winning 70/30, caring for people is fun too.

Neon: Just keep up the work. I'm a college dropout, don't be one. I started out in pre-med, switched to pre-meteorology, and downhill from there.

I don't regret any of the education I got. Math, science, physics ... even though I dropped out, they've served me well, I think. But, the bucks of a degree ain't there.

Neon - you are a treasure. I hope we all stick around this forum long enough to see how you turn out. It'll be grand whatever you decide!

I would just like to say this. So far as storm chasing is concerned ... tornadoes and hurricanes are entirely different balls of wax. Tornadoes are compact, vicious little bastards. They give you minutes of warning. Hurricanes are big lumbering oafs that give you at a minimum several day's advance warning. In the midwest, where the sky is wide, tornado chasing is much more practical than it is here in the Southeast. And, generally speaking, they're more intense in big sky country as well.

Very intense, not so much in Illinois as is deeper into the Alley. Hurricanes like to destroy things on a wider scale and it's harder to chase them on the ground as it is to watch one from a Hurricane Chaser.
But you guys down south are probably better than us when it comes down to holding out the storm.
The bad things I say about storm chasing:

The tornado has a change in appetite and turns towards you...
The hurricane is stronger than predicted...
Lightning strikes...
A second twister...
Airborne objects...
Survival kits...
Flooding...
Huge hail...

But it sure makes for a fun father/son and friend/friend activity for those looking for thrill!

2 Years to go, then it'll be time to move out and go to college.
-Dorms
-Independence
-Education
-$$$ later on
College years sound like they're worth the heavy amount of $$$ needed to be paid!
