In the other thread I explain the insane day I had on I-94 where I spotted cars of the same model following each other. This includes 2 Loeber smarts 1 passion/pure coupe, 1 brabus coupe. All really close to the loop.

Not *Entirely* On Topic, But.....

I've had dealings with the Parts depts. of both of the dealerships you're inquiring about, getting the parts to put my fog lamps in on my Cabrio...

Loeber in Lincolnwood charged ~$26 for a LH lower front cover. Knaus in Lake Bluff charged ~$17 for a RH lower front cover. Take that for what it's worth.

OTOH Lincolnwood seemed to know their way around the Fortwo parts manuals a lot better than Lake Bluff did. In fairness, that may just be attributable to the Smart parts guy at Lake Bluff being out to lunch when I happened to roll by, I really don't know, but I offer it up FWIW. It also may be because Lincolnwood is attached to a Benz dealership, and Lake Bluff is attached to a Hyundai dealership, so Lincolnwood is already used to M-B's parts & service heirarchy.

(Of course, it may also indicate the relative skill advantage one dealership may have over the other when it comes time to get your car serviced. I have no idea; my dealer's in Michigan. I'm just puttin' it out there for consideration...)

I have to ask, why are you or why did you send $100.00 to a dealer when you could have done everything on the computer and the deposit is only $99.00 ?
I received my car through the Lake Bluff dealer with no problem. And I did get an orphan. After waiting almost a year and no-one could give me a date of delivery I went with the orphan

Second reply... After taking delivery of my orphan, I contacted Smart car of America and received my deposit back within 2 weeks

So, I'm taking the Lake Express ferry across Lake Michigan on July 2 to pick up a fortwo cabrio from Jill at Lake Buff. Jill and Knauz have been nothing short of fantastic taking care of all the out-of-state anamolies.

Living in Rockford, MI (believe it or not, I moved here from Rockford, IL), I had dealer choices from Detroit, Ohio, Indiana, etc. I chose Lake Bluff because of their inventory and great response. I will have to follow-up after July 2 when I take possession to relate the actual delivery experience.

So the rumor that a Grand Rapids SmartCenter was opening really was just a rumor after all, huh?

Sure wish I knew why they don't open a dealership somewhere around GRR. I mean, it's not like there's no money in that town...
