I took my 09 Smart in for its 2 year checkup and maintenance last week. I was very disappointed in the service I received. Maybe I was just spoiled by the Milwaukee Smart crew, but I expected a bit more for my $250.
I didn't receive a checklist of maintenance items they looked at, but I see they changed the oil, oil and air filter and either topped of or changed the brake fluid. I am not sure which it was on the brake fluid. When I picked it up, all I got for my payment was my keys. No tech to explain what they did or did not do.
I looked at the smart website and see they have a checklist of what should be done at each of the early maintenance checkups. Sure would have been nice to know they went thru that factory list.
I expect they did not go thru it though. Otherwise they would have caught that my driver’s side headlight is out. I also have grinding noises coming from the front brakes or wheel bearings, and no mention of that either.
I will be doing a lot of my own maintenance from now on. I'm out of warranty anyways.
If you have a good dealership in the area you trust, please respond and let me know.
I did call back and talk to them about the grinding. I was told that it is normal for the Smart Car brakes to grind and I should not be so easy on them. The tech told me to take it up to 30 mph and stop hard. That should take care of it.
Well, if anyone has ridden with me, they know I don't bake lightly, so I reallly don't beleive pad glazing is a problem on my brakes.

Half baked and glazing over...
Couldn't help it

Me too. And I just got the half baked referance. So I didn't check spelling. Oops! I was never my strongest subject.
Now I'm suspect of my front wheel bearings. There is a definate noise from the front end that is geting louder, even when I am not appling the brakes. I have less than 18K miles on it, so I wouldn't think that would be an issue.
We were going to take 1 of our smarts in to Madison to redeem our 25 dollar coupon we got by mail (needed an oil change anyway) but they do not do saturday smart service. With so many folks living further away from the dealer than the owners of most other brands, maybe this is why Milwaukee smart was (and still are) swamped for service on saturdays? Anyway, we made an appointment in Milwaukee next saturday and will be visiting Eric and Kyle again. They mentioned that they already have an abundance of smarts coming in for service next saturday, now with mine they are pretty much full.....
A side note....next saturday was going to be a "kill 2 birds with 1 stone" day in Madison, as we were going to seriously look at a 2011 at the same time we were getting the car serviced. I guess not? Will have to try to clear a different saturday from our schedule now.....

Replace your brake pads. Noise coming from the pads, as they heat up.

Check the inside of your front tires for cupping. A lot of cars(including mine) have had this issue. May need to have an alignment done. I thought my noise might be wheel bearings as well, but after pulling the wheels & brakes off and checking things thoroughly, it has to be the tires.

I see that I am WAY LATE in jumping in on this one, and sounds like @Randy D was not thrilled with his experience at our dealer... Randy please let me know directly if things have been resolved.
As @Forestacademy mentioned it is always a good idea to discuss what issues you are having and our techs will diagnose the issue for you. Trust me, the service team would prefer to have your money for a light bulb... and therefore I know that they are very comprehensive and do follow all the recommended check lists.
We indeed DO have smart service hours on Saturday's, however it is not every Saturday yet. We are currently on a one-Saturday/month schedule... that may change.
Our goal is to DELIGHT so please let me know if that is ever not the case.
