To all Smarties:
First of all, thanks to the 12 smarties and the couple of reservationists who showed up Sat morning the 22nd for the Yalaha Bakery event. We had a nice turnout and a very nice time at the Bakery. I appreciated the support.
Now on to upcoming events: Most of these events are on the far North or far West of our coverage area. This is simply because we are getting good suggestions and good support from those areas. Please join us if at all possible and if you have additional suggestions for events please let me know.
In the meantime may the blessings of Thanksgiving be yours and best wishes for a great Holiday from Vickie and I to all of you.
1. Richard Gillen, one of our members who lives in Ocala has set up an event in the Ocala area for Saturday, November 29th. This should be of particular interest to those in Leesburg, the villages and other points north. The event will take place at 3:00 PM on the 29th at Mango’s restaurant North of Ocala. Take I-75 to exit #354 which is US 27. Take US 27 North about 13 miles and Mango’s will be on your left. For a nice post Thanksgiving Holiday drive and get together join other smarties at Mango’s on the 27th. If you plan on being there please contact Richard at
rgillen_98@yahoo.com so that he can make the appropriate arrangements with Mango’s.
2. On Sunday afternoon, November 30th at noon our members and friends from Tampa are having a meet and greet and picnic. Sunday afternoon seems to be the best day due to work constraints for some of our members. It will be at Lake Park in North Tampa. John King has offered to grill lemon lime chicken for us. Each member attending should bring whatever sides and drinks you would like as well as a small donation to cover the cost of the chicken. To the best of my knowledge, alcoholic beverages are prohibited but pretty much anything else is game. I will try to secure a picnic shelter but please bring any chairs if you have them in case we can’t get a shelter. The park is also pet friendly as long as you have a leash. Here is the address: 17302 North Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, FL 33549. If you plan to attend this event please let Bill Hitchcock know by e-mailing him at:

4. Also on Saturday evening, December 6 we will have Smart night at the Drive-In Movies at the famous Silver Moon Drive-In Theater in Lakeland, FL. This is one of the few remaining drive-in movie theaters in the United States. It has two screens and shows primarily first run movies. They have a great snack bar and both through your radio and old fashioned speaker boxes. They get very crowded and often are full on weekend nights so we will want to arrive early to obtain our spaces. The Movie schedules are not announced until a week or so in advance so we will select the screen and movie the week before the event. This night will be all about old fashioned fun so come on out and join us for the evening. For now please plan on arriving by 6:00PM and I will confirm the arrival time a week out based on feedback from the Drive-In. The Directions to the Silver Moon are: —Take I-4 to the County Line Road exit. Go South on County Line Rd to US 92 West. Turn left (East) and look for the flashing neon sign 3.5 miles ahead on the right. The location of the Drive-In is 4100 US 92 W, Lakeland, FL. Please contact me at
kwagar@tampabay.rr.com if you plan to attend.

The Entry Fee is $10 per car plus an unwrapped toy for an Infant or a teenager. In place of a toy you can pay an additional $5 fee. There will be a DJ on site playing 50’s and 60’s music. The event is being hosted by The Roamin’ Oldies Car Club and the Braden Street Cruisers and there will be a lot of classics and street rods present to enjoy. We currently have 7 or 8 smart cars that will be participating and would love to see more from those of you on the West side of our club area if you can make it. This should be a fun day and we would be doing good at the same time. 100% of the proceeds go to Toys for Tots. It is suggested that you bring a folding chair and a cooler if you desire. Food and Beverages will also be available in the Sweetbay supermarket. Directions to the location are as follows: From I-75 take exit 246 and go East on Rt 672 for 2.3 miles to US 41.
