August 09 Gathering ideas.

Well, toss em in here. Ideas are appreiciated! Ideas from past meetings also work, so don't forget.
I still like the idea for a Creve Coure lake bbq potluck sort of thing. Well, but this may be better suited for cooler days... Unless the dealer beats us to the idea.
Any sort of car related drive-in, like Chuck-A-Burger in St. Charles.

You will get a lot of ideas, but still won't please everyone. Why not head it up? I have learned that if you head up an event just pick a date and place you think would be good. Those who can make it will, those that can't won't. What ever the venue, we'll have a good time. A car show someplace on a busy street would be great. The dealership's front row would be nice

I may head it up, depending on what Smark is doing. I still thought I'd throw the general idea out since we're still a small group.

I live in Columbia and belong to the Kansas City group since that was the closest one available when I got my Smart in 2008 but I would also be interested in keeping up with your new group if you welcome those from outside St Louis? I've seen approx 4-5 cars here in Columbia and have met one couple who bought their Smart in St Louis in Feb 2008. The Kansas City dealer has been very good about having and organizing several large annual meetings so maybe the St Louis dealer would be willing to do the same. We have had as many as 40 smarts show up for that. Our monthly get togethers vary from just a handful to a dozen or so.

Of course, mews. Feel free to come! Anyone is welcome to pop about to our gatherings. Just the Smart admission fee, of course. St. Louis's smart center is in the making of putting something together (or at least we got the idea in their heads), but no news of what or when.
I'm so glad that we finally got this off the ground. When I first joined and saw the nearest group was KC.. I was sad, there's no way I could go that far! I thought having a dealer in STL would have guaranteed an existing group. Now we got some!
Now, if I could only catch those smarts I keep seeing in the wild. I never manage to catch them at rest!

Newave, when is your group having your day out. I think we will be there the weekend of 8-9. KC only 3 1/2 hours from you guys. My wife and I every other couple years, spend our anniversary there. We always find a hotel in the West port area to stay in. Let me know if you guys want to meet??????

Hello, Saint Louis! :

I also live in KC and while I think the WORLD of mews, smark on the other hand is nuthin' but trouble!

Still, he serves a valuable purpose in our MO-KAN group: he is the *perfect* BAD EXAMPLE!! Ha!

Bert636 hit the nail on the head: organize it and they will come.

Three suggestions:
1. Do some basic organizing -- exchange email addresses, learn something about whomever shows up, etc. We went round the table introducing ourselves while I took notes. Since then I have passed the SmartCar Czar title to another sucker, er, I mean WONDERFUL VOLUNTEER (Andy above!) but the initial organizing steps sure helped.

B. Take pictures of your meeting! People and cars!

3. Include a cruise at every activity! And get pics of that, too! Over time, your group will grow, but you will learn how to function together by DRIVING together.

We would be delighted to have your group meet our group, here, there or in Marcia's neck of the woods! Personally, I am not available in August, but that doesn't mean don't do it: like Bert636 said, those that want to attend will, and nobody makes it to EVERY activity.

We don't know much ( ) but we will share what we DO know! Visit our page and ask questions!
