55+ mpg!

Made two half hour trips today, and ended up with 57.2 and 57.9 mpg!

I will continue to improve on these numbers now that I know this isn't impossible..

Congrats, but just remember that you can see great numbers over short distances when cruising at the right speed with no headwinds, no A/C, no hills, no stop-n-go, good quality fuel, good tires, and current maintenance. Averaging those kinds of numbers in varied road and weather conditions is the hard part, so don't be too disappointed when you can't replicate them consistently. Also, verify that your gauge is giving you good info by calculating MPG the old fashioned way (and average a few tanks to get a good feel).

Yeah I'm still logging on fuelly. I would say most of my trips are like the ones I did this morning, with very little stop and go traffic. I'm not expecting Fuelly to start reporting anywhere near these numbers anytime soon, but it is fun to see that during two of my regularly travelled trips, I'm getting fantastic mileage..

I live not even 2 miles from work, and that daily trip will help to bring the average down..

I've tracked every drop since I got the car in 2008 in a spreadsheet. Lots of it is also on fuely, but I haven't cross-updated in a while. Right now I'm averaging 38.9, with a high of 50 and a low of 31.5. Lots of cute charts you can make with the data as well, including average miles per month, and more. Lots of patterns emerge that you'd not otherwise see.

One of the neatest so far is a chart showing my average MPG over the past 5 years, which looks much like a sine-wave. Super-impose a chart of temperatures over the same time frame (scaled on Y to match the high/low peeks in mpg) and they line up almost perfectly. Showing me that mpg (and my driving habits) are far more temperature dependent than I thought. ;)

Do you troll when others are using that pump?

I use my Smart (2010 Passion) almost exclusively for long-distance drives (e.g., cross-country). Here are my current stats. Like a few other people, I keep a record of every drop that goes into the tank.

Total Distance: 39,739 miles
Total Fuel Used: 1017.414 gallons
Total Fuel Cost: $3,797.63
Total States Visited: 45
Overall Mileage: 39.28 mpg
Best 5 tank average: 47.10 mpg
Total Fill-ups: 163
Average Fill-up: 6.24 gallons
Average Distance Between Fills: 245.28 miles
Most Expensive Fuel: $5.37 / gallon (Yukon Territory)
Least Expensive Fuel: $2.69 / gallon

For the sharp-eyed people who saw the Yukon Territory fuel price, let me add that my last trip was from San Diego, California to above the Arctic Circle (Alaska) and back. It was 5,470 miles, plus 8 days on the Alaska Marine Highway. I'll post a separate note about this trip.

Currently, I'm averaging 40.2 mpg on the Ultra-Gauge without A/C running.
Sitting in traffic eventually drops the mileage to about 39 mpg.
This includes mostly parkway driving at about 50 mph with typical shopping traffic included.
At this time the car is behaving as was stated on the Monroney sticker 33-41mpg.
I'm still on the original plugs and approaching 50,000 miles.
I see times of 64 mpg on the read out while traveling on a level road with CC.
Of course that's not reality...
