32.7 mpg on first tank. 33.1 on second tank. Second tank almost entirely short local runs of about 10 miles ( mostly my commute), principally driving manually with 3500-4000 rpm shift points and fairly spirited driving. This next tank I will try to stay in automatic at all times and behave.

I did not read thru all the other posts, but I got 48 and 41 on first two fillups. Dont know if it will be typical, but I am a happy guy. It was fun to drive to a station with about 250miles on the tank and take slightly over 5 gallons.

At 550 miles, I got 33.8. Hoping for better results next time. I am a bit of a leadfoot.

The only problem with the odds is when they are against you. I'll settle for lower mpg and multiple safety features in the smart. Just my .02.

Hi, John,

I had a Colt. Loved it. The tranny had this lever - "Power," or "Economy." In the mountains, I used the 'Power' alot - 'powered down' in all gears, even reverse. Like a granny gear. It wasn't very comfortable, but you could stuff it full. It had the best transmission! Safe? Who knows. But, it did get pretty good mpgs, if I recall.

Oh. Forgot. at 286 miles, 7.287 gals (prem,) = 39.24 mpg. Don't know if the 10 miles they drove it were included in my full tank or not. Will report at the end of the week next mileage. Also, all automatic except for a few little shifts on my own. I just love to let her do her thing. Hardly any jerkiness - none, really. Nothing like my test drive. I do let up slightly on the gas when she shifts.

I'm hoping for better numbers, but if I have to go over the mountains much, I'm sure that will take its toll.

I'm one happy Mama.

Okay I have done this before with my Vespa and Harley for a least a year and gave up tracking after I got bored. So I have the spreadsheet all set up and put the numbers in and here are the results 34.2 for the first tank full. The car had 13 miles on it when I picked it up on Friday and I drove it in town and on the highway. Actually got it up to 80 but average about 70. Drove it in town and got stuck in traffic. This about 12 mpg better than my Vette. And it cost less than 20 bucks to fill up.

Hard numbers 205.8 miles, 6.016 gallons, price 3.199, cost 19.25. All done on automatic.

44.7 mpg on the first full tank (mostly freeway 70-75 mph). That is darn close to what I get w/ my new Honda Civic Hybrid on the freeway.

Slow to 55-60 and you should get 50+ MPG in highway driving.
