32.7 mpg on first tank. 33.1 on second tank. Second tank almost entirely short local runs and commute of about 10 miles, principally driving manually with 3500-4000 rpm shift points and fairly spirited driving. This next tank I will try to stay in automatic at all times and behave.

OK my third tank 33.7 mpg. Same daily distance etc as the second tank above, but solely in automatic mode and driving conservatively and easy on the go pedal. Not much progress. I am really surprised to see so many posts in high 30's low 40's. Maybe the cooler weather in NE, slight rolling landscape and relatively short runs at speeds ranging from 30-45 mph is what is killing the mileage. I'll report again on next tankful.

My wife has been driving the smart all week while her 02 Thunderbird is in the shop. She got 36 mpg on her tank. I had gotten 40 - 41 on the first 2 tanks.
Not too bad, the t-bird gets 25 and the GMC gets 17. Now I have to get her out of my smartie!

You are in big trouble - not your smart anymore. Hope you're on an orphan list for your car.

No the one his wife ripped was the orphan...his reso car is inbound... I would not pity the SA dude too much

Re tabulating the info and data

I have hoped that the sticky thread I started would have all the info and I planned to sort and crunch around the 90 day mark and every quarter for first year...

I see there are many more posts in this thread 215 vs 84 or so...

The hard part is culling all the duplicates here and in my thread... You all are making this very hard...grrrr

None the less I am working on it

Thanks, Fred! This is a very undisciplined bunch - they post everywhere, hijack threads, adopt weird user ids and refuse to fill in all their user info. Trying to handle all this is akin to herding cats IMHO!

The good news is it's a great group and there's always something new and different on the forum.

herding cats or ducks is serous work... too bad you get to do the herding...need to borrow some real long thin bamboo poles?

You have to have been to Asia and seen duck herding to understand the long pole method

NH MPG's

My first tankful when I got the car was just over 37mpg. My second tank was over 39mpg. I drive 70 miles a day, 60 miles on the highway and 10 in city driving. I have been trying to keep under 70mph on the highway. I am shooting for 40 or better when broken in.

Just did my forth fill-up and again averaged 37. About 60% city driving and 40% freeway. Trying to keep it at the speed limit for both. I may try to keep it off the freeway for a tank full and see what I average.

Hi everyone, just filled up number 7. Took on 8.1789 gallons and completed 326.5 miles for an average of 39.924 mpg ... oh so close. I find I can get 40 mpg if I stay at or below 75 mph, shift at 2500 to 3000 rpms. Yeah I didn't follow my rules this time but still got good mileage. So I have had the car for less than a month and I have almost 2000 fun miles on it.

And explains why you have 180,000 miles on that 'Vette!
