Now back to our regularly scheduled "Real world FOR THE SMART MPG's" thread.

Just put a Scangauge in my other Smart thanks to an SCOA member who wasn't using theirs and sold it, so I have a feeling it should net me about another 2 MPG's on average.

Have my ScanGauge a while now, and consistently get around 58 in the fall, and 52 in the winter. I attribute the latter figure to the additives in 'winter' gas.

AGAIN

Realistically, we've had about 180 fuel-ups but adding them to Fuelly would take forever!
So the Fuelly mpg will stay at 0 until we fill 'er up again

P.S. the onboard computer now says 15.5 mpg avg.

Thought you could import the old data in... try putting it in a spreadsheet then importing it.

Neither of these figures, sadly, is accurate. Many of us had supposed mpg's in the 50s before we corrected for some rounding in our ScanGauges. I used to think I was getting #s in the higher 40s and lower 50s till I set it correctly, and then I unplugged it without writing down the settings and had to begin again. Currently my readouts match almost exactly with the mileage as computed with paper and pencil (or in my case, with calculator).

If you want an accurate idea of your mileage, set the odo to zero, drive for a few weeks or months, fill up, say, 5 times (recording the exact gas input each time), and check the odo. Let's say you've driven 1600 miles on 40 gallons. You've now averaged 40 mpg... regardless of what the Scangauge says.

Read the Scangauge manual about how to configure the unit at each fillup in order to reach greater accuracy.

Ohhh, no noo no. Fuelly didn't loose them, I keep all my receipts and they are just MIA. That how I lost them - I really meant I lost them as in I screwed up and misplaced them and didn't input my data at one time for one reason or another, which is very unlike me. No, my kid didn't take off with the car and everytime I have let someone else drive it for any extended amount of time I was nearby to collect the gas receipts whether or not I paid for the gas.

I do know that the worst fill ups were inputed and not lost so those two tanks weren't detrimental to the overall average of the car. My mileage has been horrible for the last few tanks, but I think I know why. Should have it fixed soon.

As far as inputing it in Fuelly or Gasssavers - the average was still the same so there was no surprises for me there. For Fuelly - I do like the ability to find out the amount I've spent per year on fuel and how it tells me how many tanks I've done.

Inputting those 72 fillups did take some time - but I got 'er done. I'll have another fillup tomorrow and later on I'll input my other smart once I get time and motivation.
