C'mon guys and gals, we're all dying to hear some real world MPG's!!!!

I sure don't want to live where Carkle does.

So, picked my Passion hard top up on 2/2. Using a method close to Suze's, I top off with three clicks of the pump and divide my mileage per tank by the amount purchased (been doing this for years checking mileage against on-board computer's info with near perfect results). This last tank I took the car up to LA from SD with a passenger AND doing about 80-85 the entire way up and back. Drove around a little bit there in the La Brea area (went to the LACMA display of the BMW Art Cars) and was only at 1/4 tank when we got back to SD. The g/f took the car shopping yesterday (first time for her driving it, totally unsupervised so I'm talking her description of Cautious driving style at face value), and I drove it to and from work today. Averaged out to 39mpg. I had guesstimated the LA trips mileage at about 41mpg, so this sounds about right for the overall tank. I'm heading back to LA this weekend to the Glendale area, so I'll get a bit of a better average I think. We'll see.

Other tanks that have been basically pure city/street driving have been about 32mpg. Not spectacular, but better than the 19mpg and 17mpg my other cars get doing the same commute. I do have a lead foot, although I'm being good with the Smart so far due to the break-in period (which I will be out of this weekend ).

I know that when I drive with out thinking about conservation I get 37 ish. When I try harder I get 40. If I really get conservative I could do better. I happen to like to drive without thought to mpgs!

For a year I saved every gas receipt and noted the MPG on each one. Pretty similar to others here. High 30s around town, mid 40s on the highway with "keep up with Washington State traffic speeds," which tend to the conservative side. MPGs get better in summer, worse in winter. No surprise there. Short trips and cold starts are killers of MPGs, and long, slow drives are winners. No surprise there either.

I'm glad I don't live in Oregon, where I can't pump my own tank, as I know the results of a slow vs fast fill can vary wildly. On my recent road trip I filled in Weed, CA on I-5 near the Oregon border, so I wouldn't have to fill until getting to Vancouver, WA.

Here in New Jersey, we can not fill up our own gas tanks. There is no self serve stations in the Garden State. The updside is that the full service prices is comparable to that of self serve prices in other states. It is about $1.75 per gallon regular here in Jersey.

After four months of ownership I'm averaging just a tiny bit over 40mpg. That is a fair mix of in-town (heavy suburbs) and highway driving with some interstate driving thrown in there. I drive it in manual all the time and I do practice some of the hypermiling basics like shifting into neutral when coming up to red lights and driving a bit slower on the highways.

I have been right at 40 mpg after 3 tankfuls. Much back and forth to work on the highway (30 miles each way). Averaging 280 miles between fills.

My first 2008 passion cabriolet I started out getting in town around 36/37 mpg. After I had around 3,000 miles on the smart, I was getting 39/40 mpg. I traded my 2008 for a 2009 passion coupe - my first tank I got 38 mpg, so I expect I will start getting 40 soon. This is all in town driving.

Well...... I just filled up on saturday (4th fillup) and got 41........ i think thats pretty good

I went to Las vegas and back,I got 46mpg. 600miles. Around home in Orange coounty I average 35 mpg. I am happy. I drove approx. 65 mph going to Vegas.
