Just drove back up to LA this weekend again (for those that saw my post about last weekend). Driving up was about 75-85mph (SoCal freeway speeds, so that was with the flow of traffic), once there I flogged the crap out of the car trying to keep up with a buddy in his heavily modded e30 M3, incluing some late night highway running that inlcuded several trips up to the 90mph electronically limited top speed. With all of this hard driving I still managed 32mpg. The style of driving in my e30 M3 would have gotten me about 15mpg, as it has in the past from playing on the same roads with this friend. Not too bad, and the car's only real faults were not good enough acceleration, not high enough top speed and a bit much body roll at higher speeds. The acceleration and speed issues I can deal with, car was not designed for that and I didn't buy it for that. The handling will need to be addressed, but I think I'll just go with thicker sway bars instead of lowering springs. MAYBE stiffer springs, but I like the ride height where it is.

I always average about 37-38-39 mpg but I tend to drive a bit more aggressively due to the fact of where I am (Northern VA). If I lived in the woods or where I could take it easier, I'd drive a bit more conservatively.

I've had my '09 Passion Coupe for about a month. It has a little over 2,000 miles on it now. Most is freeway driving at 65 MPH. My daily commute is 40 miles each way. I do not use any of the "hypermiling" techniques. My mileage has varied between 39 and 45 MPG. When I take the total miles at last fill-up and divide by the total gallons of gas for all fill-ups I get 42 MPG.

gas mileage dropos

The best I have is 295 miles on a full tank, now with 12000 miles on the car my mileage has gotten worse, down to about 270 for a tank, not sure why. Any ideas out there, same commute every day not hilly just the usual ups and downs, same gas every time.

Just under 1K miles, last tank was 36.8 mpg. Can't wait to see what I'm getting at 2.5k

This last tank was all city driving, in auto

302.7 miles out of last tank.

Cold starts use more gas in the winter.
Until it gets to full operation temp, it runs richer.

A cheaper alternative to the sway bars & springs would be not to drive at 90 mph.

Your full servie prices are not comparable toself serve in other states. It's still a lot cheaper!

I hate people from New Jersey who get cheap gas.

(Just kidding.)

I purchased an '08 Passion and only recently started calculating my milage. At a little over 2300 miles I have gotten 38.3 and 40.1 MPG. I expect to get even better MPG at 3000 miles after the engine and everything is fully broken in.
