After 11,000 miles our smart gets 38-42 mpg around town. It all depends on what kind of traffic you were dealing with the previous week and whether the A/C was on. Any quick takeoffs will lower your mileage. Around here if you leave a bit earlier to dodge the heavier traffic in the morning commute you can really boost the gas mileage. 38 with the A/C, 40-42 without.

On the highway at 65-70 mph we got 43 mpg with the A/C on. Without the A/C on the highway we usually get 45-46 mpg. I have also gotten 50 mpg when the car was not loaded down much. The latest trip to the Wisconsin Dells had us loaded down a bit.

If you lighten your touch on the gas pedal and let the car do the accelerating and shifting, it makes a workd of difference.

We just picked ours up with 10 miles on the meter on the 3rd of July. The first tank of gas, that I paid attention to the MPG, got us 38. That was with premium and nothing special on the driving. It included leisure miles as well as 70 mile commute. More to follow.

Filled it up last night, just because, as I had about 2 gallons left.

Broke out the calculator, did the math, got 45 mpg !! As Adam Sandler sang in the Hanukah Song, "Not too shabby"

I did all the "tricks" listed here; acclerate easy, don't pump the pedal, etc. etc.

Made a big difference in mpg.

43.3 mpg on my first tank

I think the fuel guage is segmented to reveal the gallons used/remaining. A neat feature!

My very first tank (January) was between 24 - 25 mpg. Since then, I've been averaging in the low to mid 30s. Since the majority of my driving is local, I have no real complaints. Lately the a/c is being used almost constantly, it appears my mileage is about to plunge back into the 20s based on my current tank of fuel.

First tank on the highway was 42.26. Next tank have highway half city was 31.4 The next 2 tanks of all in town, short trips 26.8 a piece. I find it very hard to drive it easy in town. It has such a zippy sound, plus we are in Austin where it is very hilly. At least the route we take.
