My Cab has 20000 or so miles on it, and I've averaged 43.66 for the last 3 tanks. Split between city and highway. I attempt to keep the speeds down when it's possible to do it safely, and I drive in manual mode almost exclusively.
at the 2700 mile mark, I've had one recent fill-up at exactly 40mpg, and the last several at 39+. I expect some additional improvement within the next several thousand miles.
Not too bad! I have friends who can't get that on their motorcycles. Wish I'd had cruise control. This is a new coupe with less than 800 miles. It will probably get a bit better after break-in.
In our 05 diesel I got 77 MPG Imperial, which equals 64 MPG US. The best I have so far with our 09 gas engine, which had less than 2000 KM, so not broken in yet, was 55 MPG Imperial, which is 45.79 MPG US. According to the Canada ratings we should be able to get 65 MPG Imperial, which equals 54 MPG US. In the 05 diesel I beat the suggested rating by a few MPG. It's all in using the transmission shifting right. As an example, when I got 77 MPG, my wife would get about 60 MPG. The 09 gas is the same as the 05 diesel as far as when to shift. On a level road, not pulling onto a highway, shift from 1st to 2nd at 20 KMPH, which is about 12 MPH. Shift from 2nd to 3rd at 30 KMPH, which is about 18 MPH. Shift from 3rd to 4th at 40 KMPH and from 4th to 5th at about 59 KMPH. when you drive like this you will get better mileage. Now if you are pulling onto the highway you will have to go a little higher each time just to get up to speed a little faster.
Fred/Larry - assuming the Canadian and US 451 engines are the same, any idea why the difference in mpg ratings? Does the Canadian version of our EPA use a different test cycle? Inquiring minds, etc.
They do our ratings in litres per 100 KMs, which you have to convert to MPG, imperial that is, which I call English that I understand. Metric is generally for the birds, no real advantage to using it. I don't know which way they do the ratings other than yours would be in MPG US. When you are referring to the 451 engine, what does that mean?
