diesel smart in canada

Why do we no longer have the cdi coming to canada and would the purchase of a low km 2006 be a wise investment?

The cdi isn't imported into Canada anymore as it doesn't meet the 2007 revised
environmental standards. If you can find a low mileage, well maintained 2006 and are prepared for the idosyncries, go for it.

Canadian Diesels

There is currently a Canadian TDI on Ebay in Phoenix. The dealer says it is registered and passed smog test in Arizona. Another was recently in the forum marketplace registered in Wash. Are these things legal here or not. The posts on this site always say no. I live in Portland, Oregon

I think you mean cdi and yes there have been several which have been
successfully registered in the US. Our cdi even came with a sticker on the
engine compartment which said it wasn't intended for sale in the USA.
I tried to find threads which related to this topic but was unsuccessful.

Which I did; 335 km on purchase! Quite nice cars, they are. I'm not sure how much less I'd enjoy owning one without parts and service support locally though.

That engine has been hailed as the lowest emission engine of any sort in the rest of the world, but what is the deal with Canada and the US???

I have a 2006 CDI that I had to smuggle into the US from Canada, and the folks at emissions testing always question their equipment when measuring it as it emits practically nothing! I mean, I probably exhale more CO2 than it does. (since the environmental folks have decided that CO2 was a haz-mat gas a few years ago, it's a wonder they've not issued Canadian and US citizens with filtering masks yet...)

Yet it is OK to have black smoke belching trucks, as they are in a different classification!

grrrr

Tom
