Turbo header?

Hey new to the boards. So I'm curious what is a Turbo Header? If the Smart turbo isn't attached to the exhaust manifold where is the turbo getting the exhaust gases to spin the turbo?? I'm confused.

More information, please. Give us a link to exactly which components you are asking about.

I have seen some aftermarket turbo systems (not necessarily for this car) that use the stock exhaust manifold and catalyst, and drive the turbo with the exhaust from downstream of the catalyst. It's not an ideal scenario, but on cars with a tight engine compartment it can get the turbo out of there. It also has the advantage that if emissions compliance is a concern, you are retaining the stock catalyst in the stock position.

The stock manifold is restrictive and not conducive to higher horse power applications. Some have custom, free flowing headers feeding the turbo. Difficult but not impossible in the tight confines of the smart engine compartment.

Ok so I'm guessing then that smart turbos aren't using an exhaust turbo manifold but are mounting the turbo in the exhaust pipe. I had forgot about that type of application. I had a Nissan Sentra with a turbo but I just used the JDM manifold and turbo. I was looking at the kits from Speedforceracing.

Factory turbos (not available in the US) are mounted on a turbo manifold. The 450's have the exhaust snail incorporated into the manifold. After market turbos for the smart use the stock manifold and a short pipe the turbo to position it better. Ask BARNEY O or jetfuel. There are a few other's on the forum. Google search is your friend.
