Hi,
I've chimed in on several posts. I'm curious to know if people are still getting invitations to configure. I reserved on 7-26-07, and am waiting to make my order. In reading these forums over the past 9 months I've come to expect that from reservation to configure is generally 6 to 8 months. Well, the ship has sailed on 8 months and I'm still waiting to officially place an order. I'm wondering if the whole process has stalled out and no one is being able to order any more. I know it doesn't help my case that I live in a rural area. So, can somebody please give me something to go on! It would be great to hear from someone in the Midwest, to know where the system is at. I'm day#1302, and would like to know from Omaha, Kansas City, Minneapolis and Chicago areas what the reservation numbers are. Thanks!
Configurations still seem to be going on. Just did mine for my non-orphan a week ago. Not sure if I'll be getting it or letting them orphan it yet. White cabrio with a red interior sure sounds nice.

Jimbo,
I suggest calling the smartusa toll free number if you have doubts you might have missed the request. The people there are great about helping you. You get notified by an email, if your smartUSA email is getting through, you may have to wait more, but it also might have gotten caught your spam filter on your computer or by your ISP.
I made the reservation April 20, 2007 (1205), configured December 14, 2007 (I got the request to configure about a week earlier, but was out of country and didn't respond - so THEY called about the 10th) and was notified delivery will be between 3/3/08 and 6/1/08 about April 9. The dealer called about April 2 to let me know it would be delivered in May or June.
I had made a revised configuration to the car, and had a 7/25 estimated delivery, but just now got a call from smartUSA the car had been built and is in transit and should be delivered by 6/1/08. (The revised configuration was dropped. )
I will now visit the dealer and see if he has the VIN then I can actually track the shipment of the car.
Hope this helps you. certainly call the smartUSA folks if you feel you are outside these parameters though. (800) 762-7887
There have been a lot of discussions about that elsewhere here. I'm not sure how I got that lucky. But I did configure last week. Only thing I can figure is my location. Being from a rural part of NE Indiana, maybe smart is trying to get cars out to areas away from major metropolitan centers for more exposure? I don't have the answer, I understand that this has upset some earlier reservation holders, and I don't blame them. If smart follows current trends, I should see my smart Aug-Sept. Hopefully it will be an '08, I really want a yellow one.
Or (and let me play the devil's advocate first) are the people taking care of the configuration program just a little bit too idle, and need to get busy? Configuration is not a promise for production to start within a specific time frame.
Then again (playing this time the other side's advocate) has the transportation now reached its optimum level, and do cars arrive at a steady pace, allowing faster distribution, more in sync with a ±200 US cars/day production in Hambach (the official figure since late February)?
(Pardon my ramblings, just trying to soothe uncertainty and calm impatience.)

Well, all I can say is I am glad for you and trying not to be jealous, as I am midway into the 9th month of waiting to configure. I did call the customer service people and put my questions to them. That was about 20 minutes of my life that I will never get back. I have called three or four other times and each time I get the impression that they really want to be helpful, but they are likely less informed about the whole situation than most of the people who read and contribute to these forums. But if Smart followed current trends I'd be 2 1/2 months into the build/ship/ arrival process. That would be handy right about now, as one of the State of Iowa's abundant wonderful natural assets (Whitetail deer) decided yesterday morning to run in front of, run into, and basically total my pickup truck.

Reason: spelling
Boy do I know that feeling! Here in Indiana they are thick too. I've had 4 claims due to deer in the last 4 years! Two within a month! My wife had one do a belly flop on the hood of her 3 month old Caravan, and 1 month later I bumped one with my car.
