Was anyone else confused by the Config Confimation email?

When we configured our car we didn't really get the feeling that a car was actually being built for us, the email left us under the impression that we would get a choice of cars coming in based on when we made the reservation and not what we configured. I've narrowed down the text in the email that gave us this idea:

"As vehicles become available, an authorized smart USA dealer will receive your vehicle preference information and will contact you to work out the details of your purchase agreement and arrange for delivery. "

So, is that wrong? Were cars built on these configurations and being delivered to those that configged them for certain or is it more first come first serve from the pool of Smarts? We pretty much expected a dealer to call us with what was available and give us a choice when we read that since the ordering process did not give us a VIN when it goes into production (or notice before it does to allow for changes) as has been the process when ordering other cars from the factory.

Honestly if it had been stated more clearly I think we might have done things a little differently (like perhaps reconsider going 'vert), but I'm sure we'll be pleased with our loaded Passion

Are we the only ones who were confused by the process and statements made? Just curious.

second quessing

I, like you (and am sure like several others here), have second quessed and even third quessed my selection. And the good news about that is maybe instead of taking the vehicle that we equipped, somebody else may want that one and we could take one that somebody else built but changed their mind an certain aspects. For example, i picked blue w/ silver tridion and black leather. What if i changed my mind and want white /silver w. red leather, maybe the dealers s[peak to another customer who has also decided he/she wants blue rather than white. Just my thoughts...it may be more of a pain in the ass for the dealers and mean a longer wait....but who knows

Your confirmation was sent to the factory floor for production to your specifications. It will be shipped to your dealer for delivery. Should you not purchase the vehicle, it will be sold to whomever the dealer wants to sell it to. There were not a lot of cars built "on spec." You'll get what you ordered.

State laws are setup so that only a dealer can take an order and sell the car. I'm guessing the language used was a clever way to smooth the process of getting production started prior to having a dealer base.

If the process works as planned, dealers will get the list of people with reservations and magically the cars will arrive in the order they reserved. Each car should correspond to each person's desired configuration.

The big unknown is how many on that first list will say "no thank you." Obviously not you or I but perhaps a few others may decide not to purchase their configuration. The orphaned cars could be sold to Mr. Lucky wondering in off the street, or offered to reservists farther down the list.

I could see the dealer having a red orphan and calling the next red on the list who maybe several weeks or months out but willing to take a slightly different configuration.

Either way the cars won't sit around long and that should make the new dealers very happy.
