A question regarding the DDE...Does a configuration have to occur for this to be effective, or will it eventually provide a date regardless if the vehicle has gone through the configuration process or not? Right now, mine just says "unable to provide a date". Thanks!
DDE should be able to give you information often long before you configure. How long ago did you reserve?
It's only been a month but I wasn't sure if the response from DDE was based on configuration or not. I saw that others here have received DDE dates just a few weeks after reserving their Smart. Nothing for me yet....
I reserved my car May 7 and at lunch today they just updated the DDE to say that my estimated date is 10/09 to 12/09. So, about a month and a half for an update for me.
I reserved in February but still get no dates from the DDE. I've been told that is is because my zip has yet to be assigned to a dealer. Most others get DDE info within a few days to a week or so after reserving. You may think about giving a call to smart, see if they have everthing they need in your information and slip in the question of has my area code been assigned to a dealer yet and if so how long do they expect before they have the DDE info for you. Let us know what they say if you do call.
Hi - i reserved my Smart Oct 21 2007, the DDE says i will get mine Sept of next year - but i was looking around the Smart USA insider and read that someone had ordered theirs in Feb of this year, and took delivery in March!! Now they may have gotten a cancellation............but if they didn't.?!?!?

Maybe an orphan adoption? If not, how lucky for them, not fair to us... but I do try to keep things positive, sooo how lucky for them.
It's all based on where you live. If your expected delivery date is more then 18 months out; they won't show a date until it falls into the 18 month window.
Every market is getting a different date. From what I've seen, and own experience the shortest wait time appears to be the NY Metro market. I reserved mine couple weeks ago and received a dde of 11/08-01/09. And others have said the same, NY market there is only a 6 month or so wait.
Also probably effecting it is the fact that there are at least 6 dealers in the NY metro market. If they allocate a certain amount of cars per a dealer, that makes more cars available to the area.

Hope that helps.
The Philadelphia market has only two dealerships and one is actually in Cherry Hill, NJ. Perhaps why I'm waaaay outside the DDE window.

Thats scarry for me. I live in BFE Illinois. Since I haven't ordered one yet, maybe I should CHANGE MY ZIP CODE? I could use my parents address in Oaklawn. Do you think I could get one faster?
