I configured a MY 2009 and my DDE is showing: 10/6/2008 to 1/4/2009
I really can't explain it...I configured August 25, 2008 and the DDE is showing that I could possibly have my car six weeks later!? What makes it even more confusing is that most reports show the factory switching to MY 2009 production October 1, 2008. Could they possibly build my car October 1, 2008 and have it ready for delivery, in Las Vegas, just four days later? I think the answer is: YES!*
*Kidding
I re-configured on August 26th for an 09 and my DDE is Oct 4, 2008 to Jan 6, 2009. I asked in a previous posting if I would receive an 08 if I am called to pick up the Smart in October. No one really knew the answer. Because we both configured for an 09, I would think that we will not be called in October but closer to January. I hope that I am right. toxdan

According to the usual experience, the DDE starts on or about the "magic day", the day the car is actually made, and delivery is about 4-6 weeks later...
Unless there is storm, or any unforeseeable event!

Best explanation that I have received. Thanks for the info, toxdan
Well - today my DDE has maintained 08/04/08 as a start date for the second day in a row.
Today got the call saying the car was there. So of course I said I'd be up there 4 hours one way away to pick up the car tomorrow at around noon. This is a time that is convenient for ME - THE CUSTOMER! I got a call about 20 minutes later from the (insert state here) dealer whom will remained unnamed saying they couldn't deliver it then and they would call me when it was done. I took off this week and only have a few select times I could make the trek up there to pick it up - tomorrow was one. I've now made arrangements for Friday which they said they couldn't even promise then. I AM ANGRY about this - if it takes this long for prep on a Smart how long for a full size Mercedes? (heh, I still am able to joke I suppose) It's like like I'm driving from around the corner to pick up the car, heck I'm not even driving an hour to get there. This is an ALL DAY THING - them calling me to tell me it's OK by them to pick up the car now isn't customer service no matter how much they tell me they need to accomplish the pre-delivery checklist.
They ordered 2 cargo covers for me which aren't in yet either, no problem as I'm calling tomorrow and having them cancel them. I'll be purchasing my accessories from Orlando instead. When we picked up my parents car from Orlando I spent $100 minimum in the parts dept and the same goes for Jacksonville when I got my orphan. (toys cars, cabin filters, air filters etc.) I won't have that problem this time.
Believe it or not I waited 8 hours for a cool down period before I posted. I always bend over backwards for my customers and especially if they tell me of any special circumstances where they may need to expedite something or get some other type of (fair) preferential treatment.
Anyone else been told you'll have to wait a few days for delivery of your car? Am I blowing this one out of proportion?
All that being said - Friday will be just shy of one year from when I made my reservation and I know I should consider myself lucky compared to the poor souls in the DFW area.

Reason: removed dealer state for now
I keep looking for excuses to go on errands... I about got mobbed by curious onlookers in the parking garage at IKEA earlier.
I'll admit it, I love the attention
Me too! I've had my car since June 20, and I can't get enough of driving it. I LOVE the attention, and it's just plain fun to drive. You should try taking it to a casino! Wow. You can't imagine the interest when I go!
My DDE finally moved up a month to 7/09, dropping to only a 23 month wait in Dallas now. Yet it's been 54 weeks and still no Config.
Feel your pain!! Just got off the other thread "1300,1400, Config" A member north of me same state #1581 config last night.Ordered on April 30,2008 I ordered on April 4 2008 #1555, 26 days difference. So time line is correct. Has to be the dealer allocations as to when we get to config.
Hope this helps this Puzzle!

I had a similar experience but it was OK for me since I'm close to the dealer. I can't imagine a long distance arrangement. That would be inopportune (suck).
One week into ownership and I have mastered the Getrag and Cabrio ops. It's like every manual shifter that I've owned except no clutch!

Definitely allocations, I'll see what happens to my DDE when the Ft Worth Store opens. Soon I think.
It's a shame when all the online orders came last year they couldn't figure out how many Dealerships would be needed in High volume areas. The Internet works by Magic, Per Smart.
