"Good News" from Smartusa helpline

I made a reservation April 2007 and configured November '07. I called Smartusa at their 800 number and spoke to someone named Mickey.

She asked me the routine questions like name, zipcode, and then came up with my information. She then told me "Good news, you are now at the final stages of the order process". I asked her what she means and she said that I have been assigned and routed to a dealer. She also added that once you are assigned to a dealer, you would be contacted by them and the dealer would be able to give you information like your vin, location of the car, etc. I asked her that if I call the dealer now would they be able to give me information like vin no., location and she said it depends if the car is in the us already. I asked her when do I expect to get the car and she said "soon". I asked her to define soon then she said "soon" again . I asked her is this my 30 day or 45 day notice, she said she does not have that information, does not even know where the car is right now.
Although the information coming out of smartusa is still a joke, it has somehow got me excited and hopeful that this long wait is finally coming to a close (and yet still feels to far away).

I wanted to ask this forum if anyone has gotten to this stage or actually was told that you are finally assigned to a dealer, and what does that actually mean with regards to the delivery status? Any comments guys regarding this information given to me by smartUSA?

Are we not all assigned a dealer, based on territory or zip code. Such as if you live in Orange County or in the South Bay of Los Angeles you will be routed to Laguna Niguel. At least until the Torrance Dealership opens. Hey but you have been assigned a dealer, celebrate! The again reservation holders 1492 and 1493 in Hollywood have also been assigned a dealer, it's Universal, Tee Hee.

sorry

Patience is the name of the game. I'm a 1180 reservation holder who received a 30 day email.. and at 28 days the only time I've heard from the dealer is when I've pestered him. I definitely didn't get a call from the dealer within 10 days, as the email suggests. To their credit I did get a speedy response saying they don't know where my car is.

Why this is such an organic process, given the capability of inventory tracking systems in 2008.. I don't know. But.. it's going to be a pretty great day when finally get those cool little cars.

So true. It ~is~ an organic process. Including the Orphanage.

Hoping for a smoother ride soonest for all Patiently Waitings and Not-So-Much Patience Left Waitings...

Same exact experience. Got the thirty day e-mail., no call from the dealer. I called them after the 7 days, they knew nothing. Went there after 2 weeks, still know nothing, Sent them e-mail on the 28th day, still know nothing. So a car that should be in "states" in one more day is unaccounted for. Dealer did say some type of improvement is going to be made at the smarusa.com site to help us track our cars but I'll believe that when I see it. The dealer actually said that service would be available Saturday the 29th. Yeah right. I am also a 1180 and know the dealer has already delivered a 1186.

I was informed by the dealer I think will be assigned to me that Smart is releasing an "Allocation List" on March 1st (tomorrow) which will allow each dealer to have more up-to-date info for the cars they have been allocated. Don't know if this will show timeframes, but may give each dealer more current assembly/shipping/arrival news.

I got an e-mail from my dealer on Wed. stating that they had my order scheduled for delivery in April (1184). Car was scheduled for construction in Feb.. They do not yet have the VIN. Have received NOTHING from PAG. Thus far the dealer has been the best and most reliable source of information.

New Information system to track reservation orders revealed!

Breaking news everyone! I went to the smartUSA customer service headquarters and managed to get a picture of the new computer system that would track all smart cars orders, locations, production status, etc! SmartUSA finally did it, the answer to all our problems with regards to the lack of communication and information.
"Good News" says the rep to me, "you have been assigned to a dealer" and "you are going to get your car SOON!"
