I am a #1181 and got a call from the local smart center Wednesday night telling me my car is coming sometime in March but not sure about the exact
date. I asked and got the Vin # from her. But I've never gotten any email from SmartUSA before the phone call. Go figure. But at last, I know I am
getting close.

Lost in the Queue

So I see elsewhere in the forum, that another central Ohio smartie got their car yesterday. Funny thing is, my reservation date was one day earlier and order date was the same.

So I too finally called smart USA. We it seems my 30 day email went out (I never got it and this would be the first email not to find its way to me in 20 years [without writer error]).

So I asked when did they send it, they can't tell me. :-P

I said so when is my car arriving, they can't tell me that either. Once it is assigned to a dealer, they lose sight of it. :-P So they say less than 30 days and the dealer last said 45 days.

Hum, something is starting to smell....

Did I mention I saw same color combo Passion on the lot earlier this week, but since the dealer said mid April, I figured some other lucky smartie, but now today I wonder.... Wish I had a VIN. I have contacted the delaer today, maybe they can explain this all.

The pain and frustration of early adopters....

You know what BimmerDob, that was the same line they gave me yesterday that an email was sent out to me a few days ago but somehow that is the same email that I could never find. I even asked her if she could resend it to me and she said "it is computer generated automatically" so she could not do it. She said that once you are assigned to a dealer, they would be the ones that would have the info on when and where the car is at. I told her I live about 8 miles from the dealer that was assigned to me and one should know that already once you make that $99 reservation. So I told her tell me something I do not know already. Of course she said it again "you are at the final stages now" and "congratulations".
Woohoo Smart usa, please tell me something that I don't already know.

BimmerDob, I was wondering if you spoke to the same smartUSA rep pictured down below that I spoke to yesterday.

smart1 Customer Care Center

"Good News" says the rep to me, "you have been assigned to a dealer" and "you are going to get your car SOON!"

Whenever you call the 1-800 line or email to the designated address, all you are doing is checking into IB's boiler-room operation, tended by nothing but minimum-wage drones. Do not expect anything useful or factual.

The saga continues

E-mail exchange with dealer, they just got their fax confirmation of my order and they gave me a VIN. Yee-ha.

Checking in with the other same date smartie in central Ohio, their car delivered VIN below 108xxx, my VIN above 123xxx. Did I mention my reservation was one day earlier and the same day for order confirmation, yet our two smarties are 45 days and 15000 cars apart.

I guess I picked the wrong model / color / options...

I can't even fathom how this "reservation process" is working. :-P

We have to take into consideration that the plant in France is not just making smarts for the US of A. There are other countries too. Logically I would think they run so many days of same configurations. IE: Cabriolet fully loaded then Cabriolet with various options. Then so many days of the Pure from bare bones to fully loaded. Also so many days of the Passion with various configurations. Probably running all of the similar configurations at one time. Though that is just me making wild assumptions on what would seem to make most sense.

It could also depend on who replied to configuration and when. I know we got ours on a Friday. We were out of town and didn't get the email until we got home on Saturday night. So those who responded more quickly may get theirs quicker based on what is being built at the factory at what time based on the configurations.

We can all try to speculate and guess based on available information. But in the end it is just that. Speculation and guesstimation.

Better off saving time emailing & getting a canned response.

To give some hope, I reserved in Feb of 07 and confirmed in mid Nov. I couldn't even find out what # I was. I didn't get any e-mail, but on Feb 24, 2008 I got a call from my dealer in Devon Pa. (even thou Annapolis is closer) that my car has been shipped and is 3-4 weeks away.
