How long is the wait?

How long is the waiting list? Someone told me its 18 months long. And, any comment on the "resell prices " in 5 months. Sooner or later, were going to get tired of paying over list for a used car

if you were to 'reserve' one today, 18 months is about correct. the longer you wait, the longer it will take.

you're only other option is to go ahead and 'reserve' one and get on a dealers 'orphan list' and hope that they call you....someday.

as for resell prices, hey....if they're asking ABOVE MSRP for a used one, the answer is simple; DON'T BUY IT! that's the only way to keep that from happening.

Well, i resold mine a month ago. I wanted a different color trion. I have 5 more months to use the bill of sale. The debate smart vs. yaris should include used civics, celicas and ect
Nope, i'm not paying the $400 doc fees again. And forget about paying over list. Frankly, when the next "fad car" comes along, everyone will jump ship.
I see the 4/2 as a modern vintage bug. You can take it apart in your driveway. I'm sure thiefs will steal them and strip them for parts!!
I see the day, some of us will have 2 smart cars. One parked sideways in our garage( for parts) and one for driving.

Bitter much? ;)

So you bought a smart and with only 2 tridion cell colors you purchased the wrong one? Right now people are still receiving their reserved smarts and turning around trying to resell them and make a little profit. With patience you might be able to get a deal on one down the road.

Theft? ANY automobile is susceptible to parts being stolen. The only way to ensure that it NEVER happens is to not own a car and just take public transportation.

Jeepster55,

I disagree with you on the 18 months, some who have reserved a few months ago are further ahead on the DDE time line than I am. As you know location, location, location being in Dallas with a res # 1321 I have 2 year DDE wait from Aug 2007 to Aug 2009.

As for resale lets see what happens in January after a year on the market. Not buying a used one should drop the price.

Who knows how long it will take? I reserved in July of 2007 and am still waiting to configure. I'm reading posts of people who reserved their car in February 2008 and are already configuring their orders. The DDE is giving me March-May 2009 as an estimated window for receiving the car. Based upon what I have read it's a 3 to 4 month wait after configuration. So if you're blessed to live in an area that SmartUSA decides to favor, your wait can be as short as 6 months. If you reside in the 7th level of SmartUSA hell(where I seem to be living), plan on 20 to 22 months. If all goes as planned.

Didn't see the advantage

Oh going on the list to be honest.

My wife and i have been on about a year now just for one. My wife called a dealership today and we could have bought the one they had there that the owner didn't want.

Unfortunately we had a trade in and the dealership didn't want to deal with that when there are a great many people out there simply walking in to pay cash for one up front.

Sort of soured me on the list and the car to be honest. Its the only dealer locally carrying the car and I'd cut my right arm off before going back there.

What is the sense in being on a list ? Especially one that you had to pay for.

Today is my 400th day and I still have no info from Tulsa or smart. DDE is now until the end of July. I live in the Great Void, also known as Little Rock, where it is a 5 hour drive to the nearest dealer who has ignored all my emails.

Really?!

Check the KC Mo section of the forums. That would give you a better/more realistic idea. Or you could post irreleveant posts and hope to get close.
