After 14.5 months of waiting the one thing I figured out about the smart delivery system is this, you're lucky if you get a dealer that has enthusiasm and is easy to deal with. Three months ago smart Center Lincolnwood (Chicago) called to say that my car was confirmed for the build schedule. My DDE bounced all over from 6/30 to 9/15 but I understand the car was built June 27. The third week of June the salesman called with the VIN no. Based on the tracking info posted by others I know my car left Germany July 3 and have tracked it where it will hit Baltimore sometime tonight. It should be in Chicago the 27 or 28 and I expect to pick it up 2 weeks from today.
The hard part of this is I had a sales rep who told me for 2 months my car was built, shipped and held up in customs. After talking to Colin Lane the brand specialist at Lincolnwood everything fell in to place. RawlUSA is right, but you do have to have contact with someone at your dealer who actually cares, if you don't then you won't know until the car arrives. It's a shame smart USA doesn't have a given REQUIRED procedure for customers.
