Now that that is out of the way, tell me about the confirmation number and how to decipher it. There must be a way to determine delivery dates or perhaps you could explain the entire process after you place a deposit. Thanks, b
For example my number is 4395211173 The first six numbers is the time of day of your configuration, backwards. Mine translates to 12:59:43 pm Pacific Daylight Time. The last three 1173 represents March 19, 2007, the day I made the reservation. Your last four numbers will represent the date you made your reservation, nothing more, nothing less. If you reserved 200 days after I did your last four would be 1373. Numbers right now are in the 1400 range. Everyone who reserves on the same day has the same last four digits. There were hundreds (thousands?) of 1173s.
A $99 deposit to a SUBSTAITIALLY well funded company is far from sending Corbin/Sparrow $1000. Corbin needed the money to float the company and the car's development. Diamler-Benz was just reported this week to have had a record year. Its a completely different situation - don't worry too much. Smart could have done the reservation process for no charge but the validity of one's nterest is only measurable by those who are willing to have a small stake in the process. Consider it a funded opinion poll.
Now for someone that seems to have the intelect of the Smartcar's business activities such as yourself wouldn't you already know if they refunded my deposit?
I thought for sake of conversation that you might click the link below for an understanding of the words being thrown around here. Maybe you have another word I could use in place of discrimination? http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/discrimination
Bernie,
Trust this forum. You have received misinformation from whomever you have been talking to...perhaps a new employee?? You cannot do anything about the car until you receive a notification from Smart and unfortunately for you that will be quite a while yet. Chill out man - there is a lot of good stuff in here and you WILL get your car if you just hang in there.

Could you imagine how many reservations there would have been if they were free? And the attrition rate? The $99 is a small pledge of faith that you want the car, and smart will cheerfully refund if you change your mind later.

well, the $99 reservation MB is receiving from 30,000+ people probably is not included in their profit since revenue is not recoginze until earned. Most likely they are reported as footnote to their financials or some sort of liablilty. Also, if they do a free reservation imagine the mess this will create with people constantly changing their mind that it will not give Smart a gauge to see how many people are very interested in buying their car.
Its not revenue when its a deposit. Its a liability that would either be refunded or booked is income only when sent to the dealer and applied back to the sale. A lot like money borrowed isn't income, but something that must be paid back or sent somewhere else.
$4,158,000 on 42,000 $99 reservations is must a small blip on the MB books. Diamler has a market cap of $ 87.34 billion with a B.
