what do you mean by 48 instead of 78?? (where did you get those numbers?)

From what I am working on VIN # 0085775 is a passion, serial number 5775 (?)
and the other car 094515 may be a cabrio #4515 but I still need to determine for sure that this is the difference between #8 & #9

I didn't say I had a lower number, I said I had a NEWER serial number. Smaller number, car built earlier.

Yellow/black/leather passion coupe

Okay, I see what you are talking about.

The 8 that you both share means you both have a 2008

The 4 and the 7 are more than likely check digits but could indicate model.

Need a few more vins to narrow the choice.

spdickey has a Yellow/black/leather passion coupe, what did you order? colors? state?

What color cell? interior? I saw black but did not know if that was the cell or interior. Leather/cloth? Did you get a upgrade option?

All vins will consist of 17 characters: Wmeej31x48k094515
the first 3 digits are the Manufacturer: WME (must be a code for smart)
4 thru 9 are type of vehicle: EJ31X4
8th digit is motor type if multiple options
9th digit is a check digit for verification
10th digit is vehicle year: 8 (2008)
11th digit is plant code: K (where your smart was made)
12 thru 17 are the vehicle descriptor section: 094515 ( this tells us the type of vehilce, model, body style, ect.)

When enough of you have shared your VIN (last 6 digits) I can determine which numbers are pures, passions, and cabrios. (You have to let me know what body style you ordered and give color in case this was a factor in numbering).
I don't see how this can be correct. It would imply that if two cars had the same configuration, they would have the exact same VIN. I believe there has to be something sequential to distinguish one car from its twin.

Yes, the last set of digits (most likely last six numbers) are going to be the sequential numbers but I need a few more vins to narrow down what other information is contained in the VIN

I could use a little help here on this project...

If you would PM me with the following (or post here) I also need a few from our friend in teh great white North so that I can determin the indicator between the 450 and the 451. I need the following

Your VIN, Model (pure/pasion/cab), Color package (body/cell/interior), and if you purchased the upgrades which package (comfort, etc. by code #) I can then have enough data to determine the center digit codes and the serial number of your particular vehicle in relation to other similar smarts sold.
