seems to me and a few others that the answer is YES!
when i asked about the 'wait time', i got this reply from 'smart center Smithtown':
"You can sometimes get immediate delivery or make a reservation and see it in six to nine months. Please call 631-471-9042 today until 4pm or tomorrow from 11-3pm
Thank You

this seems to coincide with the other posts on this forum from a few NYC residents that claim they can 'reserve' a smart in July for example, be invited to 'configure' it in August and take 'delivery' BEFORE the end of the year!
he also states you can 'sometimes get immediate delivery'. maybe this is from the fact they are given so many ORPHANS?
WHAT'S UP WITH THAT? do we ALL need to contact PAG and smartusa to voice our displeasure?????
sorry, i'm all for waiting my turn and if the wait for EVERYONE is approximately 18 months, i'll wait my 18 months. but when some who are '1300's haven't even been invited to 'configure' and others that JUST RESERVED 2 MONTHS AGO are not only 'configuring' but being given a DDE of Oct-Dec 2008, WELL THAT'S JUST PLAIN WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I reserved spring 2008 at the so called largest smartcenter in the USA,smartEdison. I had a dde date of May through August 2009.It dropped off the board so I went looking for an orphan.I called the smart boiler room and was told 18 months to 2 years before arrival.
I found my orphan with no addons, the yellow cab, and was told it is typically a year wait after reserve confirmation. That was about three weeks ago and I am still off the board as per dde. I bought my car at a NY dealer that was the closest dealer from my house.I got preferential treatment(on the orphan I was told) because I had a car on reserve as oppossed to someone walking off the street. Now shouldn't the largest smart dealer get the fastest delivery if this is occuring?I haven't confirmed ,just yet unlike some are reporting they did after reserving after me and If so they just skipped over me.I just think the smart brand specialist are just uninformed and the wait while not as long as some places it isn't as short as they are telling people.I don't think this information is in the pipeline and they are guessing. At least that is what I see from my visits to all the local dealers and I am right in the middle of 4 dealers.Hope this helps somehow.
Simple, less orders quicker config and pickup time. Seems simple that every dealership should get enough smarts to keep themselves in business. The more people that order a smart from a dealership the longer the wait. There is also many dealerships selling right off the lot.
From SmartUSA about the shortness in the NY area wait times
Dear smart Enthusiast Vehicle delivery is first come, first serve, but within each dealer's designated market area. Delivery date across the country may vary based upon vehicle production and distribution. Major metropolitan areas, such as New York City, generally experience longer delivery times. I do not think they understand my question
hey "Duckhunter".....YOU got the same reply I got, WORD FOR WORD! must be a standard answer and therefore, must have had many people inquire for the same reason about NYC.
Someone needs to bring that to their attention, maybe further up the chain?
Someone on here seemed to have Dave's personal number... anyone want to call him up?
