Let's face it there are always trade offs in whatever decision you make. Since I am a "sunroof" person, I elected to go for the cabrio. You have the option of only opening the top half way for a great sunroof effect unlike the stationary panaramic roof. The cabrio just has more to offer in the "FUN" equation. Lastly, I think it will prove to be a better value.

don't take this the wrong way, but i think convertibles are generally more feminine than masculine. most convertibles don't tend to look very masculine compared to their hardtop siblings.
When we decided to get the smarts, I suggested we get one of each. My husband said: "Ok but who gets the convertible?" Without missing a beat I said: "I do because I've been riding the bus for four years." He could not fault my impeccable, albeit, selfish logic. We love them both. The coupe is a little peppier because it's lighter and the cab is a slightly smoother ride because of the additional weight. Spouse says with the windows down the panoramic roof is almost like having a convertible. I drive with the top all the way back (stage one) but not dropped down (stage 2), rails in place. This way my vision isn't compromised by the rag top as it is when the top's all the way down. I know it's down in the picture below but she's just showing off. I'm amazed at how little wind there is if the windows are up and I've had coupes with more road noise than the cab.
I've owned to convertibles in the past and actually ordered the cabriolet, but when a dealer near my home had a passion coupe with everything I wanted on it for 3000.00 less I took it,maybe my next car will be a convertible ,I love mercedes slk retractable
I've owned ... well, I've owned alot of cars. I prefer a Cabrio over the coupe for the following reasons:
1. It's a convertible.
2. The way the Cabrio is designed. With the roof rails, the tendency to develop rattles and wind noise along the high vortex areas over the windows has been eliminated.
3. Wind noise can be eliminated at any speed by simply closing the roof.
4. I live in Southern California, where EVERY day is the perfect top-down day. Never had the top up on the Cobra, first thing I did in the 5.0 Miata when I got into it was drop the top. I drive from L.A. to San Diego and all points between up to Big Bear (yeah, I'll have the top down when I'm driving up there, too).
5. The visibility on the Cabrio is excellent with the top up (and, obviously, even better with the top down).
6. The Cabrio - like the 427 Cobra - is a not-so-subtle car. Some of the neighborhoods I drive and park in aren't that great. Never had the top up on the Cobra, never had a theft. Why? Everybody looks at the car. Thieves generally break into cars through windows or unlocked doors.
7. The styling of the coupe and the Cabrio is so close, that they're virtually indistinguishable with the top up.
8. In order for a manufacturer to offer a convertible in the U.S., the DOT and NTSA require that the windscreen frame be able support the weight of the car. So I feel very confident that I'm going to be safe in a roll-over accident in the Cabrio. If I hit an object hard enough to distort the Tridion cell ... well, it'd be hard enough to damage the cell in the coupe as well, and - as that's the case - I'm not going to have to worry about anything ever again. I firmly believe that the Tridion cell has been properly reinforced, and that the cell has in no way been compromised by the Cabrio.
9. The MPG on the Coupe and the Cabrio are virtually identical.
10. I'll get more chicks with the Cabrio ... although it'll only be one at a time.

I'm a sunroof type of gal and because the coupe doesn't open, I opted for the cab. If a sunroof had been available in the coupe, I probably would have gotten that because of the larger back window. I love, love, love my cab. I love that I can really use the top like a sunroof and open it just as much as I want to, depending on the weather and wind conditions. I'm happier with the flexibility than I even thought I would be ** open a little or open a lot. I doubt I'll ever take the side rails out, even if I put the top all the way back. I just don't see the need.
