What I was told when I called smartusa a couple of days ago and ask if I was going to have to wait until 2009 because they were only contacting 350 people a week I was told that

What l do you meany by the "weekly production limit"? Production of cars for import? Production of PAG order sorters?
We know this. Imports to USA will be between 16,000 and 30,000
We know that there are 25,000 to 30,000 people who have sent $99
We can assume a 25% to 30% attrition rate
I seriously suspect 20,000 is the max 2008 Smarts will be imported in 2008 and 60% will be the "Pure" low end version
I can not think of any good reason to play games with the first 16 to 20 thousand reservations who have $99 invested as indication of serious interest.
Well there is one bit of info I know PAG does not want us to know.... Import Delivery schedule..... drop out rate will get very high if only 1000 or less are imported per month starting in Jan.....
By production limit I mean simple those destined for the US. The reason to string along "the faithful" is that there is no point in placing 20,000 orders all at once just to have customers wait up to a year for his/her order to be built and shipped. It makes more sense to submit valid factory orders in small batches that are consistent with the export production levels (1500 to 2000/month?) - hence the slow, allocated confirmation process. To me, I'd rather wait a couples months (or more) now for my confirmation email to come, then wait a couple more months from that point while my car get built, then to order now and have the factory sit on my order for 8 months. You think people are perturbed not hearing anything now for a month or two at a time, just imagine not hearing anything for 6 to 12 months at one stretch!
By the way SMART was a No Show at the Orange County auto show.
Has anyone seen outside on other threads what reservation date we are at for confirmation? At 350/week, we are approaching the 5 weeks, in theory: 1750 confirmations. Back in June we had 10k reservations (correct me if I am wrong). Guesstimating that we will import 2,000 units per month, puts the next round of deliveries for the next round of confirmations closer to March.

So far, I think we finally got to number 1174 (march 20 or day 2) a couple days ago.
was invited to confirm my order yesterday... originally reserved on 3/21.
Ok_smartie posted this yesterday, 10/9 in the New Member & FAQ thread "Did this $99 in May. So Monday, part or maybe all of day 3 was invited to confirm. The process marches on.
Got a phone call yesterday! Placed order in Boston!
To follow-up on the invitaiton email they say they sent a couple of days ago. I never received it, though. They resent it while they had me on the phone and I got it instantly this time. Anyway, I logged on to the web site and went through several easy steps to confirm my choices. I ordered my Smart (well, actually, it is going to be my wife's) in bright yellow with all the available options. Now it will be interesting to find out how long it will take until I hear from a dealer. So far, there does not seem to be one in Boston\New England. Cheers, Ronald
Don't know if you already posted it but what was your original reservation date so we all can see how the follow ups are going ... congrats btw, I'm also waiting so I can order one for the wife ... my reserv' date was 4/3 so it looks like it will still be awhile
