Some Reservation Info

I contacted what I expected to be my local Smart Dealer (local MB dealer) about my reservation. Since I am planning to travel in January I wanted to alert them so I would miss any important steps in the process.

It turns out the dealer won't be ready to deliver Smarts until later in the year, but my car will be delivered to another dealer in the region that is showroom-ready. They were able to investigate the status of my reservation for me. I'm passing this on to you all so you can gauge the process.

I made my reservation on March 20 (Passion Coupe) and confirmed the reservation on October 8th. My Smart Car was built and inspected on December 3. It hasn't shipped yet, but they expect it to be delivered to the regional dealer the last week of January or the first week of February.

Hope this gives you all an idea of the time line progression.

Happy Holidays everyone.

Wow, this is news... first reporting that the dealer order system is up and running and accessible by the smart centers.

Also shows the confirmations are being built to order. And that they will be sent to the showroom nearest you that is open for delivery.

Please let us know where you are in No. Cal. and where you expect to pick up your car.

I'm a 1173 in So. Cal. and expect to pick up my car at Beverly Hills Mercedes in just a few weeks! But if they're not open in time there are a few others within an hours drive from here.

That's a pretty long exposure from financing the build to collecting the sales price. I wonder who is carrying this paper for Hambach?

some reservation info.

Congrats on the info. If you are near the SF Benz Smart center or that is where your distribution point is, Went by there today and it is up and ready to receive shipment. Spoke with the personnel there and she indicated they are expecting their first cars within two weeks. Of course this is good news for early confirmers, Guess I'll be in line for a summer or fall delivery.

She also mentioned they are sold out for the next 18 months!

I just called my dealer, Germain Motors, and the General Manager told me that the guy I need to talk with will call me tomorrow and he, the GM, is sure that he will be able to give me the details on my car. Whether it has been made and when it is expected. They have the list of their reservation holders and the details on the cars. I'll let you know.

Wow, that's great (and unexpected!) - did they give you a VIN number?
That suggest that they have already built , what a couple 1000 US bound smarties already!

I live in the East SF Bay area and my expected dealer will be Smart of SF. Looking forward to the car, as I commute a total of 75 miles each day and at Bay area gas prices, the Smart can't come too soon.

No VIN number was given, but I expect I will have that when I'm contacted by the dealer to pony up more cash to prove I'm serious. I suspect they will hit me up when the car leaves Europe.

As for who is carrying the paper, I'd assume MB would until they hit our shores. With the oversubscription, I don't think floor planning is much of a problem.

Bad News from Germain Motors

What a disappointment. Brian said that they do NOT have a list of reservations. Smart told them that in the Ohio Valley area there are about 500 reservtions. Germain did sign their dealership agreement and they expect to get cars about the 1st of February. He knew nothing about what other dealers have pupportedly said. In fact he said that Smart says they are not telling any onformation in order to 'preserve the integrity of the reservation process"

Val,

Sorry to hear that; I think it's just too early for this part of the country. Did Brian say how far along the dealership was? Although, it looks like they have until 1 Feb now to get everything in place.
