Vin #'s and shipping information please!

After one receives the "call" from their dealership of expected delivery date, can one find their vin number and where the vehicle might be in the process? My dealership states other then their notice to them, they won't know anymore until it is delivered to their door and at that time, we will be notified. Seems that one could possibly track their vehicle's preogress??? Thanks for any help!

My dealer gave me my VIN while my smart was sitting on the dock in Germany. I was able to track the cargo ship that was carrying it and I knew when to expect in here in the US. My dealer called me the day in arrived in Baltimore to let me know it was on dry land. I'm now waiting for them call and tell me they have it at the dealers. So, I would assume your dealer should be able to give you more information. Good luck!

Nicholas - If your dealership has given you an "expected delivery date," they should be able to provide you with your VIN# as well. When I went to my dealer, along with my VIN#, they gave me my 'R11 Selected Unit Details' sheet that also included: the date of production, the ETA, the VIN#, the transportation status (e.g., shipped, etc.) as well as my Smart's configuration and total sticker price. This form looks like it came from headquarters, not a dealer-specific printout. Hopefully, by asking specifically for that sheet, that might prompt your dealer to be a lttle more helpful.

Also, once you have your VIN#, and the fact that you reside on the east coast, you should be able to use the following website to track your Smart as it makes its way toward America. JPaul has posted several excellent tracking threads that you can use.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
