Yes Hondas are incredible cars. In the shop I used to have we called them 'poor mans Mercedes' because they were designed and built so incredibly good. Smokey will be very happy with his new Fit, and congratulations to them for getting it, but I heard that Honda is coming out with a small coupe version like the Smart very soon (before the year is over). When they do I will get one sight unseen, until then I'm a Smart man (hey, that sounds like an advertising slogan ). The thing that everyone needs to consider is that whether you own a Fit or a Smart or a yaris or whatever, you are helping the planet and sending the automakers a very powerful message. It's all good

Back in July '05, my wife and I bought a Chevy Aveo. We LOVED it....especially her!! Then we started having problems! Nothing major.....just nickel & dime type stuff.......speedometer too far off.......cd player quit loading. Then we started having problems with the car not starting after sitting for a few days! We hadn't seen a Honda Fit yet when we bought the Aveo! WISH WE HAD! I think they came out later. When we DID finally see one, especially the capabilities of the rear seat, we really liked it. We even thought about selling the Aveo at a loss just to get a Honda Fit. I STILL think the Fit is an amazing car for it's size & all that it has to offer.......and it's a Honda! We all know that Hondas last forever, hold their retail value really well, are extremely reliable, and the Fit probably gets really good gas mileage as well! I ALMOST canceled my reservation at one point on the smart, but decided that for just $99, I might as well wait-and-see. I'm glad now that I did, but I wasn't 100% sure until I was finally able to go and see them & test drive one. It's a personal choice that we ALL make, and I think a Fit is a wonderful choice!! Now.........if he'd have said a Ford F-450 diesel to be used for a SOLO commute to work each day................................!!! ;)

this is a smart enthusiasts forum - if people are looking for back-slaps and hand-holds for purchasing something other than a smart - those other cars have their own forums with owners that are just as passionate and evangelical and helpful and constructive and supportive for those respective vehicles. the priius community is very passionate and strong.

but it puzzles me why non-smart people would want to congregate here and complain about their non-smart choices being slandered. seriously.

Yes and that's the best place to post a thread regarding not being able to wait any longer for a Smart that's been reserved ;) The key here is for other Smart owners to show that as a group of people that they are polite, and not rude. As the waiting list gets longer and longer expect to see more of these threads, so if a Smart owner is the type to take these kinds of threads personally, then maybe just move on to another thread ;)

i think the only ones taking things personally are the members who want to remonstrate and admonish those who don't get super excited about the posts on how great my yaris is or the priius is better for me than the smart. lol.

if a smart owner wants to comment on someone's decision to purchase something other than a smart, on a smart enthusiasts forum, that person shouldn't be made to feel as if their allegience to the smart is politically-incorrect.
i sincerely hope this forum does not sink into a shallow-feel-good-nobody-say-anything-controversial-don't-hurt-my-feelings-love-fest.

i think the yaris, fit and priius all stink for my personal needs, aesthetic, wants and likes which is why i bought the smart. which is why i am at the smart forum and not the yaris, priius or fit forum. there are those who can wait for a smart, to those that cannot, by all means get something else and co-mingle with like-minded folks about your decision and purpose.

i hope that my difference of opinion isn't characterized as "rude" by anyone - although, i've been around forums long enough to know that some will probably see it that way.

and i'm okay with that.

I bought a demo because I couldn't wait for mine. I'm staying in the reservation system and will order mine when it comes. I'm a bit of a gear-head so my 2nd smart will be a Diablo. I'll get a stripped down smart car, and I'm going to put a Hayabusa GSXR motorcycle engine in it, and it'll become a toy. Search YouTube for Smart Diablo, you'll see why you should keep your reservation. :-)

Wow, did this thread get hosed up...It started with a guy stating he bought another car and wanted to know how to get his refund. Several posters replied advising to write or call and request the deposit refund. I didn't see anyone hammering the guy for buying a different car than his smart. Lots of folks with short triggers!

lordboots... Good luck with the Hayabusa conversion. What will you do with it after you build it?

Go on lovely Sunday afternoon drives. Especially in the Fall to view the autumn leaves in New England.

Or, have more fun than most of us will ever dream of.

On the the topic of long wait. It is really starting to suck. I just passed 1 year. I could really use the car right now. The dealerships in the high demand areas HAVE to get more cars.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread on you. Any possibility of an Orphan from your assigned dealer? What kind of availability do they have? Do you know what RES# they delivered last? #1254, you should be getting close!!!

Orphan Annies aren't an option for me. My DDE has been stuck at 6-6-08 to 9-4-08.

Maybe July 4th delivery? Where's my dealer call?
