MY dealer told me (and i've heard others in the showroom being told the same thing) 12-18 MONTHS and from the DDE on my ordered Passion, it's unfortunately right on the money.

guess you might just want to go ahead and start 'considering' that Honda Fit!

I'm in no rush to buy a new car, I just REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY want a Smart car. I have wanted one since I first saw a picture of the 450. My 2001 Sentra is still a decent car just starting to show it's age and since my "family" is down to 2 I don't need a rearseat anymore. I did receive my "welcome to the reservation system" e-mail today so I hope that next few months doesn't stretch out to far.

As has been said many times on the Forum..."If you want a smart now rather than waiting 18 months, get on the Orphan List at your dealership, form a good relationship with your sales rep, be sure to limit your requirements list to a few 'have to have' items and wait." I wish you the good luck I had...Reservation on 4/5/09, got my Orphaned passion on 4/23/08 - 18 days!!!!

I guess I've resigned myself to waiting. The system is what it is, and no amount of blowing and gassing off in this forum will change it, or change them. If I get too tired of paying to drive my pickup everywhere, I'll do the orphan thing. I still relish the idea of making my own order and getting exactly what I want, and that keeps me in the queue.

I'm going on Monday to get on the orphan list at the Lincolnwood dealership here in Chicago. I won't accept an orphan w/ leather seats or a bunch of dealer add-ons but otherwise any color is fine. I am sending my sales person alot of people so I hope that makes a great impression with him. I not a rich person from the northshore just a regular guy from the city so I'll butter him up with clients instead of money. I have been pre-approved for financing from 2 banks and through Smart so if one is available in the next 3 weeks I can take it right away.
