Reva Smart Car



Like the Smart Fortwo, the Reva is unusual, distinctive and a trendsetter that needs to be marketed as one. Reva is designed to be distinctive and stands out as a legitimate city car. The Reva is world's most successful electric vehicle and has captured our imagination and car buyers across the globe. A Reva is a four seater and electric car powered by an electric motor not a gasoline one. The cars motor gets power from a controller, which regulates the amount of energy—based on the driver’s use of the pedal. All electric vehicles use energy stored in their rechargeable batteries, which can be recharged by common household outlets. Buying a sedan like this is something people have wanted for years.

The Reva was India’s initial electric car and was launched on May 11, 2001 and since the first Reva was rolled out, the manufacturer has kept up with innovative technology for the car as and when required in accordance to the changing needs of the car buyers.

The Reva went through seven years of R&D and hailed as the most ground-breaking and soaring technology automotive product of the year. Customers could customize the design of their car by choosing from 2000 shades. Body colored bumpers and mirrors enhance its value.

Since 2001 Reva has added a new frontal crash structure, new braking system, enhanced suspension, new windscreen, styling enhancements and improved internal layout giving improved head and leg room inside the car.

The Reva is sold in the UK by "GoinGreen" as the Whiz. The Reva in Europe received full EU approval (like are DOT) which ensures that the car meets all European standards with respect to safety, emissions, electrical, and mechanical standards.

The Reva is known for it’s affordable. It is a limited urban electric vehicle taking some giant steps into more serious automotive territory.

The Reva is best suited for low-speed and congested driving conditions where the Reva can easily maneuver with efficiency and smoothness.

REVA is easy to drive and most ideal for "stop-start" traffic conditions without a clutch and gear.

The Reva uses a lightweight tubular steel space frame that supports all the suspension and body components. The body panels are made out of lightweight dent-proof ABS plastics.

REVA requires extremely low maintenance because of the minimum number of moving parts and the latest on-board diagnostic tools that store three years data and enable prompt service. This enhances efficiency, performance and high degree of reliability.

The REVA is also being test marketed in US, Nepal, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Israel, Japan, Norway and China. REVA electric cars are now sold in 24 countries.

India's Reva plans NY electric car site

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — An Indian car company has chosen upstate New York for a factory to build a new generation of electric cars for North America, a state official said Thursday.

The Reva Electric Car Co. will work with Bannon Automotive, a new electric car company in Freeport, N.Y., to assemble a three-door plug-in hatchback, the NXR, at a site in the Syracuse area, according to the official, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the announcement hadn't been made.

The Metropolitan Development Agency scheduled a news conference Friday afternoon to announce the deal, and an agency spokesman declined to release details until that time. Gov. David Paterson and Sen. Charles Schumer were scheduled to take part in the announcement.

Bannon Automotive has secured an exclusive North American licensing deal with Reva, and the companies have agreed to spend $26.5 million on the plant, The Post-Standard of Syracuse reported this week. Bannon officials could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Bannon will renovate a 150,000-square-foot building in Clay, a Syracuse suburb, the newspaper reported.

The state will provide $3 million in Empire State Development Corp. grants and $3.76 million in tax incentives and breaks, the state official said. Paterson met with Reva officials in May, and touted the fact that New York would receive federal stimulus grant money for research into advanced battery technology.

The source also said the state Assembly and Senate will kick in other funding, pushing the package over $10 million.

Bannon also has applied for $40 million in loans from the U.S. Department of Energy and $12 million in loan guarantees from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Agency. Those requests are still pending, a Schumer spokesman said.

The plant is expected to be operating next year, with an initial work force of 100 that will grow to 250 workers over three years.

Reva is based in Bangalore, India. It unveiled the three-door NXR hatchback last month at an international auto show in Frankfurt, Germany.

The NXR can reach speeds of 65 mph with a range of 100 miles on a single charge of its lithium-ion battery pack. The car will come with a 15-minute fast-charge capability, although the full charge would take eight hours from a standard household outlet.

Reva was established in 1994 as a joint venture between the Maini Group of India and AEV LLC, a California company, to manufacture environmentally friendly and cost-effective electric vehicles. The cars are now sold across Asia and Europe.

There are more than two dozen companies now manufacturing or planning to manufacture electric cars in the United States, according to industry figures.

REVA CARS. I think the NXG is nicer looking than the NXR. It would be neat if there was a Fortwo 'roadster' inspired by the NXG; IMO.

I take comparing the Reva to our fortwos as an insult. Revas in their current form (REVA, REVAi/G-Wiz) are the laughing stock of the EV world. They're so slow a jogger can outrun it in a drag race!

Now the NXR is something that's very interesting indeed. It looks nice and is on-par with current EVs. It'll probably be cheap too! But trendsetting? It isn't even out yet due to delay upon delay upon delay.

Don't get me wrong now, the REVA/i/G-Wiz are probably great for their indented markets (not the UK though apparently) but saying it's like our cars is a bit of a stretch IMO

That's like saying Justin Bieber is as good as John Lennon :eek:
