What's that smell?

I think I might have an issue. I walked out in to my garage this morning and smelled something like I've never smelled but it made me think it was something electronic. My ED was plugged in to my level 2 charger. When I turned the key to start the car, this came up on the dash.

Anyone know what this might mean? I'm hoping it's nothing major but I have this sinking feeling I might not be driving my Smart for a little bit.

smell is a bad sign: the magic smoke came out!

Sorry to hear that. We're all crossing fingers, please keep us posted on the diagnostics and repair!

Yeah, magic smoke is what I'm worried about.

Garage
Hate to say this but wires are made of smoke. if you let the smoke out of the wire, it won't work unless you replace the wire with new wire and fresh smoke.

Once you smell the smoke escaping, you are in trouble and should disconnect any power. I also hope it is nothing serious, but it doesn't sound good..

Any chance they can give you a bit more info? i.e. Which piece of electronics?
Hope your smart will be fully recovered after the transplant surgery!

He just said the ECM. Isn't that all housed in a small box? I assumed that was all one piece.

Apparently so. Such a bummer to have it out of service for a week. I have to drive the gas guzzling Honda Insight and make my son catch the bus for a week.
