JIM ROSS STATE FARM
Jim,
I currently have State Farm but haven't contacted my agent yet. My Brabus is due in the March to May window so I have some time yet. My question for you is, will my SF agent give me as good a rate as you? and is there a special source that she would need to refer to to get the lowest rate?
I dropped Nationwide in favor of Amica which gave me much lower rates.
I too was shocked at how much insurance companies are charging for this car. Replacment & repair costs are ridiculously low compared to other cars, so comprehensive & collision should be very low. It can't do nearly as much damage as a bigger, heavier car, so liability should also be low. I have no idea why Nationwide wanted to charge me 15% more for a smart than for a brand new Ford Escape.
The only thing that I can imagine is that they have concerns about medical coverage for the driver & passenger. There is little to know history on these cars in USA, so I'm hoping that insurance costs will come down as the history develops in the direction that I hope it will.
