My insurance company (Erie) quoted me $598/year. I am the only driver and will be splitting my driving between the Smart and my 2004 Isuzu Axiom (which is about $590/year).

Another insurance example...

Here in MN, I changed from GIECO (had been with them for 5-1/2 years) to State Farm. GIECO gave me the same answers as seen above.."only liability at this time"..."we're not underwriting this vehicle at this time"...etc. I tried both on-line with my VIN and by phone with two different 'representatives.' No success so I moved on.

State Farm had the smart listed in their list of makes on-line. My VIN went in effortlessly. The 'new' local agent that called me the next morning with all the detailed info. I have moved my other 4 autos and my homeowners policy over to State Farm as well to get an even better discount for everything.

My smart's policy is running $269 for 6 months with $500 deductible level but with 'max' coverage.

BTW, after adding the smart (5th vehicle) and combining all the policies I am actually paying $45 LESS than I was for 4 vehicles + home before with GIECO.

As an alternative, Sate Farm may work for others here too.

are there any young drivers who have gotten quotes for insurance? I'm 20 and checked with my current company (New Jersey Manufacturers). They quoted me $1600/year on my mom's policy and $2400/year with my own

Insurance

I recieved a quote today from Erie Insurance for $520/year full coverage with a $500 deductible. Granted I have a spotless record and a multi-policy discount with them. I beleive this is in line with what most are seeing for the SMART

This was based on a Passion Coupe with no major options. Hopefully, it will be hear by the end of March or early April

My wife finally got the numbers from our insurance - GMAC through the Good Sam Club - but she can't remember if they said it was $633 for the year or for 6 months. We'll find out when we get the bill!

I tried Geico, Progressive, and Liberty Mutual:

Geico: I"m wondering if those who said Geico will only cover liability are simply misinterpreting the response from the web site? Since the smart is not listed as a model I chose "Other" and completed the on-line forms. I got a response sating that they could only give me a liability quote($200 per year) because they could not identify the model. If I were to call and give them more information they would provide a more complete quote. I tried calling but got tired of wearing out the keyboard on the phone trying to get to a human.

Progressive: quoted us $2400 for a year!

Liberty Mutual: Going through their on-line forms was equally frustrating - the first time I got to the page where you enter basic information such as name, address, phone number, etc. It seemed to choke on my phone number - kept asking for me to enter a phone number, even though it was there in plain sight. The next day I tried again and got about 4 pages further when it choked again on an entry, which was in fact there. I gave up on it. The next day I received an email from them thanking me for my interest and it gave me phone number to call if I had any questions.

Whoever says that computers are supposed to make our lives easier apparently has never had to deal with them!
