that's why you just replace the filter while it's still new, then they'll have nothing to go on.

Plus, the likelyness of your motor going out under warranty is, well.. not likely. But if you wanna be paranoid, you can replace it with the "genuine" filter until warranty is up, and then do what you want with your own freggin car :P

For those who think Bosch is better than Fram for a A/C cabin air filter.
Bosch P3785 Cabin Filter

Amazon.com: Bosch P3785 Cabin Filter: Automotive Amazon.com: Bosch P3785 Cabin Filter: Automotive

$19.76

Product Description
Original equipment fit and quality for cleaner, healthier passenger cabin air. Pollen and harmful substances inside a vehicle can be up to six times more concentrated than outside. Bosch Premium Cabin Filters prevent harmful spores and pollen from entering the vehicle interior and keep passengers and downstream HVAC components protected. A cabin filter works much like the filter used with your furnace and/or air conditioning system in your home. Replace your cabin filter with a Bosch Premium Cabin Filter and trap close to 100% of airborne contaminants before they enter the interior of your vehicle through the heating and air conditioning system. Image(s) and description shown is a generic representation of a BOSCH automotive-air-conditioning-refrigerant part. Your part may or may not look the same.

That's a misconception. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act specifically prohibits manufacturers from denying warranty claims because an aftermarket part was used. They only way that they can deny the claim is if they can show that the aftermarket part caused the failure.

From an FTC publication explaining the Act to businesses:

Generally, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty. The following are examples of prohibited tie-in sales provisions.
In order to keep your new Plenum Brand Vacuum Cleaner warranty in effect, you must use genuine Plenum Brand Filter Bags. Failure to have scheduled maintenance performed, at your expense, by the Great American Maintenance Company, Inc., voids this warranty.

That's a pretty close analogy to what we are discussing here, involving a filter (cabin air filter or vacuum bag) and an electric blower assembly.

Jetfuel, I'm sorry but I first have to.. then go..

I'm sure your point is very valid, but in my OPINION, I believe it's "reasons out of context".

In all reality if that did happen to me just because of an air filter... by god... I would have bigger issues in life to worry about and if a dealership had that type of attitude THEY would have more problems to worry about then my fan that broke.

All honesty I don't think I can find a dealership, especially a smart one that is going to tell me that they are going to blame my air filter for the cause... now if I didn't have one and all this junk started flying around then..

I do have to find godfather's comment funny... the whole thing with the oil filter causing the problem with the throttle bodies or the other way around ;) lol...

By the way my warrentee expires in 5,000 miles so I'm not too worry about it... but my opinion doesn't change

Actually I plugged in one of those defective scangauges and it triggered a check engine light, the dealership reset it for free and my maintainance light. Very nice guys at SF SMART... and if I had the problem with the fan and aftermarket air filter I'm equally certain that they have the knowledge to know that it's not the filter's fault.

But.. of course.. legally if they wanted to be a pain in the butt I'm sure they could pull a trick out the basket and say what you mentioned, but my chances of that is slimmer then trying to win a traffic court case in a written by trial of decleration.

Cheers!
Larry

Does anyone know anything about Wix filters? Those show up with the smart 2008 match at amazon.com and they have the smart match on their website at WIX Filters : Cabin Interior Air Filters. They're a little more expensive than the Fram or Bosch. - sheureka

Which direction is up on the FRAM air filter

The FRAM Smartbreeze air filter isn't labeled very well. On the Sienna, which direction faces up?

The Toyota Sienna / Camry / etc cabin air filter works very well. When you install a new filter install it with the pleats running horizontally (I doubt it really makes any difference). The one I'm using is a Purolator and I was amazed at the amount of trash it collected in 10 months / 22k miles.
