Well said sir (Fig). Mine reads minus 503.

The oil and filter took a few minutes each time. Drink a cup of coffee and talk to neighbors while it drains on the ramps. The air filter was somewhat easy. The plugs (not needed yet), I did need help with the #1 coil nut from our buddies on SCOA.

The maintenance counter reset. I will go in to visit and ask for help. The dash clock too after a simple speaker change.

It's not a "homemade" method, it's straight out of the Mercedes WIS for smart. I stand in awe that this thread is still alive and kicking.

Thanks Paul! I suspect some techs may use the above method but mention the STAR computer because it sounds more "techie." Nothing to back this up, just speculation.

Changed the oil on my new (used) '08 passion for the first time, 12,103 miles when bought. Doesn't look like it was ever changed, or whoever changed it used regular oil. Mainenance indicator said -362 days so either it was changed and never reset or just never changed. I reset it first time I tried, wahoo! Too bad I can't say that about the first time I reset the indicator on my '09 pasion.

The smart USA website has this how-to pdf on the owners page. It's not some form of hack.

I printed out a copy for the manual.

Resetting the Maintenance Counter on your smart fortwo

It always takes me a couple tries to get the correct timing, but has worked.

Did my 30K tuneup today and wasn't looking forward to my annual struggle with the darn reset. But I did the smart thing this time and reviewed Evilution's excellent video first, then I tried the reset. First time in three years that I got it on the first try! Evilution's video is key -- watching it really gives you a good feeling for the timing and fluidity needed to get a hitch-free reset. Thanks, Kane!

Omg, what a pita! It took me a half dozen tries. The Evilution video did help me with the timing. For me it was turn key on...one beat-two-beats...double-push the left dash button...key OFF...hold left button...key ON. It was that first double-beat before hitting the left button twice that made it for me, I think - can't be too soon, can't be too late.

I did it 3 time with a total of about 5 Attempts. I must be living right....

now that I said that my 40,000 reset will never take...

That chart really confused me - because it says the Maint count should be at -0- when done with the procedure - but that number is supposed to be counting down from 10,000 - in other words, it should show 10000 when you've done the process correctly? Or am I not understanding something correctly?
